New on the site purchased this starter last Sunday 1970 Camaro. Going make it a nice driver to cruise around Houston area. Know has a long way to go but had to start somewhere.

Any pool players on here that play bca or apa?

I love it. Are those 17 " Year One rims? What are your plans? LS power?

The wheels are 17x8 in front 17x9" in back year one wheels. I wanted to go ls power but with my budget this year do not have what is needed. Car has a 383 in it so bought a msd atomic efi kit, tank inc gas tank with there fuel pump, car has a 4l80e transmission so will keep that, want to mini tub it with coil overs, redo interior, and repaint it. The motor only has only 3100 miles on it and so does transmission. My friend said get the car running and driving way faster saving 12 k on ls swap so can get it on the road and have fun so think that is my plan for now. When 383 has issues hope to have enough money saved to do ls swap with 6 spd. I want big wheels, big brakes, all new suspension, new interior, new paint, and rear end done in next year. Then next year do the ls swap have 28 - 30k in my budget for this year so know that is not much but ls swap would put me way over and depending on how things go may have to adjust things will have see when get there. I love the site and looking at all the great builds to get ideas from. Know there are plenty of people on here with tons of knowledge and appreciate the people willing to help newbies like me. HAHA

I want the car complete in three years that is my goal. Just have to see what new comes out that I drool over to buy haha

Update on work done so far. When shop inspected the motor noticed that the cam was flat and damaged lifters and push rods. So have the motor at the machine shop repairing that now. While the motor is out of the car we removed the subframe to get it powder coated. Shop will also install the painless wiring kit while motor is out and replace radiator core support and new inner fenders. Had some custom a/c hoses made to remove some excess length so look little cleaner also. Will get some pics to post this weekend when I go back to the shop so can have some before and after pics. I am going try have the shop put the motor back in car, new atomic efi system installed on the 383, and car mini tubbed before the hot rod power tour starts in June since it starts less than 300 miles away from me this year and goes all over Texas.

Once car is mini tubbed can put the wheels on it that I am buying from SW on it. Car will not be painted before then but at least should be able to cold a/c and driveable for the summer. That is my goal as of right now. We shall see!

While I'd probably stick with the 383 myself, an LS swap can be done for pretty cheap if you're willing to rebuild a used truck motor with more appropriate components (new heads, intake, cam, and so forth). It certainly won't make as much power as a lot of the nice crate engines you can see people dropping in here (500 hp+ LS3/LS7), but it can be done for a fraction of the price.
Good luck with the build, looking forward to seeing your progress!

I'd vote keep the SBC. The LS swap was fun, but the old school motor makes a statement every time I turn the key.

Well stopped by the shop yesterday doing the work on my car. It is coming along so far say the least. HAHA I have the motor at the machine shop being repaired from the flat cam that did some damage. Having a hydraulic roller cam installed and everything redone. While the motor is out have the transmission at the transmission shop being refreshed just cause bought a used car might as well and having them installing a yank 3200 converter in the 4l80e I ordered from Yank.

Since no motor and transmission went ahead had the subframe taking off to send to get repowder coated. I also sent the spindles, springs, and few other things to get powder coated as well.

Had the shop take all the interior out since going to rewire the whole car with a painless wiring kit and install all new dynomat. Soon as subframe comes back and other parts will go to mini tubber to get that done and going have him smooth out the firewall since the redneck just cut a huge whole for the vintage air.

Making progress trying have car done before Hot rod power tour that is my goal but will just have to see.

Great progress.

If you want to save a little money & time you can buy the DSE Filler panel for the firewall.

Well car has been at a stand still but is about to be back to rolling here soon. Just got the subframe and some parts from the powder coater. They are going put the subrame back on the car with the front suspension so can take it to the minitubber so can fit the wheels I bought from SW on it. I cannot wait to see the wheels on this car. LOL My motor just got back from the machine shop, transmission is just waiting on the yank 3200 converter which should be here any day, and soon as car is back from mini tubber car will be completely rewired with a painless wiring kit then put back together.

By the way I bought these Fiske from SW he has to be one of the nicest guys you ever meet. Extremely helpful for a noob like me. haha Went to his shop and all you can do is drool. He had ferrari's, lambo's, mercedes, road race style porche's, older pick up trucks super clean with 1000 hp twin turbo motors, multiple old trans am's, zr1 corvette, and many many more of the coolest cars you ever want to see. Just going to his shop checking out his customers cars and his cars was a experience I will never forget in its self.

Making some progress not very much but some. Mounted the tires to the rims I bought from SW. Tried to buy the DSE mini tub kit but it was on back order. Tried buy DSE Quadralink it was also on back order. So bought the mini tubs from DSE and going install the speed tech torque arm. I also bought the narrowed gas tank from DSE even though do not need it now will install it anyway. Then last night picked up some C7 seats out of a 2015 vette. Stephens race cars will do the mini tub installation and the installation of the torque arm. Also going have them put stronger axles, posi unit, and 3.73 gears instead of the 3.08 in it. Soon as car is mini tubbed the fun will finally begin can put it all back together to be able to drive it. I wanted go with a LS swap but just did not have it in the budget so rebuilt the 383 put a hydraulic roller in it, bought a vintage air front runner with dse power steering pump, had the headers receramic coated, and will install the msd atomic efi. Bought a 3200 yank convertor for the 4l80e transmission. Doing all I can to get this car running before the power tour know will not be painted by then but sure thing can get it rolling by then. Please hurry parts!

Well car been on hold for a while waiting to get into the mini tubber. Finally got in and got some bad news. The floor pans and trunk was in horrible shape so had no choice but to replace everything. So that is being done now will post more pics of updated progress as it goes. He also narrowed the rear end, put a posi unit in it, upgraded the axle's, and installing the wilwoods for the rear axle. Then will install the speed tech torque arm.

They installed larger axles, installed new posi unit, installed the speed tech torque arm, made some custom brackets, relocated the cross member since have the 4l80e transmission, did the c clip elimination, and put in the new gears.

The rear end and everything else is at the powder coater supposed to be back today from them so they can put everything back underneath the car. Been long time trying to get these Fiske under this car and lot of aggravation but man should be just a matter of time. This is by far the best shop and easiest shop ever had to deal with. Yes it is I waited 15 weeks to find a shop to get the mini tubs in on this car. Then another 3.5 weeks for them to complete it. Seeing that huge tire tucked in underneath this car sure makes it worth it just changes the whole look of this car and makes it look sick,

Car is looking good man! Hopefully see you on the tour

Dropped the car off back at my mechanic shop last night. Have less than one month before the power tour going do my best to make it. Only thing going for me is that have all the parts at the shop. Due to the floor pans and trunk wiping out my paint budget for this car it is just going have to be a ugly duckling for a while. Lol Good news I know now have solid car with fresh motor, transmission, and completely rebuilt rear end. My goal was to have this car done in two years I am on goal to make that I hope still. Lol

Back to the drawing board I am swapping shops due to the shop have been using guess just forgot to work on my car. So am going to swap shops next week and hope to actually get this thing finished.

I have the car at another shop at the moment getting custom brake lines, fuel lines, power steering lines, and a/c lines all installed on the car. While I was there took some pics underneath of the car before it gets undercoated. Anyway learning that just buying one of these cars for sale on the site would of been a easier option. LOL I am not giving up though just yet.

Well has been a while since I posted anything but my new mechanic has really been getting things done. He has fixed lot of issues from the other shop did bad work on and corrected all those mistakes. Car is still not running but is finally looking like a car again. Here is some pics from the last month my new mechanic works and works on my car on the side when he is off. I am happy with that because what work he does do to the car is done right which is something have not had before. LOL

We pulled the sbc out of the car and installed the ls7 I bought recently. We converted the ls7 from dry sump to wet sump. The accessory drive that came with the ls7 was for a impala ss which was for a low mount drive. I had to buy the high mount brackets so everything would fit right on my car. While the motor was out we undercoated all underneath the car since replaced all trunk, floor boards, and everything else earlier in the build.

Finally installed the fesler trunk hinges on the car.

First time the car seen the light of day in probably two months. I know it is a ugly duckling but will have be this way for a while. I have talked to about ten paint shops in Houston who people referred and everyone of them said six to eight months. I know I may be in the wrong business but understand there is a reason they are that busy I guess so will just have stay like this for a while.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/10/16_zps1qopxabb-1.jpg

I had Keith at custom works make some gauges from speed hut with there bezel. I like the way they came out I play pool so maybe not for everyone but that is what I like to do so added little 8 ball on the tach. They will light up blue and red at night.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/10/19_zpsaap9xdov-1.jpg

I had Roger at emblem pro make be some new emblems for the car which he did a real good job. Going paint this car silver when the paint shop can get to it so think these will look real good on that color.

We hope have the car running in next four to six weeks. I have had this car since December and my goal was to take it on the power tour. That did not happen then it was to take to good guys in Fort Worth in October which did not happen. My new goal is to have it running before my daughters birthday in November around thanksgiving.

Looking good Any updates?

We are still trying get it done. All the work under the hood is wired and just about complete other than going to chassis shop and having them custom make a cold air intake. He is going to start wiring the inside now. While at the chassis shop getting the cold air intake made he will adjust the ride height and set the torque arm up since he is who installed it. I have missed every deadline wanted to do with this car but hope to have it going before xmas. Then have to find a paint shop which have found plenty but they are all behind say 6 months to a year before they could get to it. Guess that is the way it goes.

Well the car finally got into the chassis shop so they could finish adjusting the torque arm and adjust all the coil overs. I am also having them fab a custom cold air intake because of the clearance issues of the radiator just real tight so they are going fab one up. I am also having them make a seat belt bracket for the rear for daughters car seat. Still lot to do but is starting to see the light and may be able to fire it up for the first time when it returns from the chassis shop and gets back to my mechanic. I will try to take some more pics when I get back to the chassis shop.

I had to narrow the rear end and install the detroit speed mini tubs to get the clearance.

I had Billy Whatley at Motorsports Technologies (MTI) tune the car. We struggled with lot issues in the beginning but he managed to get it all dialed in. He is going to retune it in couple weeks once get some miles on the motor. It made 436 rwhp going through the 4l80e and bolt on ls7 am happy with that for sure.

The car is on the road been driving last couple days since we had great weather. I have one of the best mechanics Pat Grigsby he does great work and he is honest really appreciate all he did for me to get this car on the road. Has been a long process of trial and error but am happy to get through it all.

I am going to save for paint due to so far over budget on this car never know what you buy until you take all a part. Glad I know now it is a solid car and have replaced just about anything I could. Put all the stereo stuff in it last night so will try get some pics of that but other than that this is how the car will be till can afford to paint it. I already have all new quarter panels, trunk, and know where some new doors our may purchase just want make the car look slick when I do paint it when ever that may be. Anyway thanks for everyone else on the board who have answered my p.m.s and questions for this noob. See you on the power tour or cruising the coast!

Ya photosuckit screwed everyone over. You can do the temporary fix like I did to the pictures but not sure how long its going to be until they find out how to put that to an end too. You can also use the built in picture uploader and carry on just fine.

After two years of waiting the car finally got dropped off at the paint shop. Car will have new quarter panels, roof skin, door skins, header panel, fenders, trunk, and flat hood now. Going paint it torch red with no stripes. I think with the flat hood no stripes on this car looks simple and clean may regret it later but went with my gut.

Great to hear it's going in for paint, and you can always add stripes if you change you mind later.
