Looking to fit a 2010 camaro SS Ls3/6L80e into either a 79 or 68 camaro, my concern is the 6L80e fitting into the transmission tunnel,
Has anyone done this on the 79 or the 68 Camaro, how much clearance do I have?

thanks, andy

Andy,

The 6L80e is a monster and makes even the 4L80 look small. From what I have seen, there is considerable tunnel work required.

I put a 6L90E in my 69 Camaro. Same floor. Some tunnel mods needed to push the trans high enough to get decent ground clearance on the pan. I am running an Art Morrison IRS so I was able to push it quite high with no driveline angle issues because the pinion is stationary.

With a 6L80E you have a shallow pan option that is not available with the 6L90E. It is the one from a Pontiac G8.

Not the same car but I have a 65 Buick Skylark with a L92/6L80 and we had to raise the trans tunnel about 1.25". I also went with the G8 pan and filter. Everything worked out just fine. If you know going in you have to raise the trans tunnel then you can prepare for it ahead of time.

That is what I have to get over, if I'm going that direction. Sounds like there's no way around it. Still have some uncertainy,
Thanks.
