Trying to decide what color to paint the engine bay. The frame and suspension is black. Now I can't decide whether to paint the entire engine bay black or the same as the body color which in is the test pic of my trunk deck. The engine is Pontiac metallic blue as you can see in the engine pic. I know the black works with everything. But I'm not sure about the body color with the engine color. Thoughts ??? Also, this was a quick test paint job. The trunk deck will be sanded down and repainted with the rest of the car when it's ready :)

I think black would look best. But I also feel you'll be happy with either choice

Black would set off that blue very well. Go with black.

My initial plan was the body color. Then I started noticing how other cars looked when painted body color. In most cases the body and engine colors complimented each other. But when they didn't it looked horrid. So I put my test trunk up next to my engine and I started to have second thoughts. The more I thought about it I thought going back to a nice gloss black was the way to go.

I painted mine gloss black to match the outside of the car, when I was going through the build process. At the moment, I kind of wish that I would've went with flat black. I'm finding out how hard it is to keep shined up in all of the tight spots! haha

Going with black on the cowl and body color on the inner fenders of the El Camino...photo's I have seen of such really appealed to me.

I went with a 40% gloss black for my engine bay. It looks great and allows the engine to shine which is the point. With my car being yellow, I never even considered it for the engine bay.

Yeah, it might be just a tad too much.

I personally like black for an engine bay because it makes the engine and chrome stand out more. Show off that Pontiac!

Black gets my vote. It will give a nice contrast to any color.

That's my El Camino. :) I was considering changing the engine bay to a semi-gloss black but I'm blacking out the LS3 so the yellow is going to stay.

Yeah, I know Herb...the image of your truck is my desktop screen as incentive to keep plodding along on mine. :twothumbs Thus far the plan is to spill the body color over into the inner fenders and keep the firewall black to break it up.

Thanks! I'm glad I can be a source of motivation!

I thought about doing the firewall black, but since the engine bay paint is pretty nice, it seemed like more trouble than it was worth. Besides, I figure a blacked out engine should stand out nicely in that sea of yellow!
