My buddy and i just did a quick mock up console last night for the camaro. My question concerns the height of the arm rest. too tall? for comfort it is dead on, but, my dad brought it to my attention that it may not look that good. he wants to drop it about an inch and a half. I would like it to run even with the top of my shift knob. because this is a father and son project this is yet another, of already many arguments. so I ask for everybody's help. here are some pics. all opinions welcome. you can't hurt my feelings:hmm:

Dou you have a picture? Without actually seeing it, I think an arm rest should be set so that it is at a comfortable height when your arm is at rest, not necissarily when you are shifting.

It doesn't look bad and may look fine with the rest of the interior installed, but as is I have to agree with your dad, for looks only it may look better an inch or so shorter. Comfort is always a big concern, though. Perhaps split the difference and drop it .75"?

Looks good but I would say its a tad tall. If you plan on driving the car a lot, like going on the Hot Rod Power Tour, one thing I see thats missing is cupholders. When it all said and done you and your dad have to live with/drive it. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I would consider dropping it a bit so your arm does not make contact with the armrest when you are shifting. Looks like a good design, though!

Get in it and act like your shifting through the gears while getting on it, that will be a good litmus test if its to tall or not. Kinda looks like it will take out an elbow or two while shifting.

this car will mainly be a weekend driver/trailer queen, so I guess comfort isn't a must have. no big trips in this car and absolutly no beverages, meaning i won't need a cup holder. what about just deleting the arm rest all together...sorry very crude paint shop quicky.

You could try measuring a factory 2nd gen console for the height of the arm rest/compartment. Mine is perfect for me at least.

Are you planning on making a storage compartment, or is just an arm rest?

*puts hands over ears* lalalalallalalalala I didn't hear that trailer queen part... thats like a 4 letter word around here https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/images/smilies/getout.gif

ok but really unless your going to have a truck length shifter in there that console is entirely too high.

sorry about that.:slap:Remember the whole father and son thing...well pops is show, and I'm the go. he is a 100% anal perfectionist, which isn't bad. he just doesn't want to hurt his damn masterpeice. I on the other hand want to enjoy a little more of the car than the looks. personally, I would love to do the powertour, but the only way our car will see that strech of road is on a trailer.
