I have a 77 Trans Am, and I am looking at replacing the stock seats. They don't really recline, lean towards the center of the car no matter what fixes I employ, and just suck over all. What other seats have you guys put in these cars that fit and work well? I suspect that no matter what seat i go with I will have to make adaptor plates that the new seats bolt to. Then the adaptor plate will bolt in the stock 77 TA floor pattern for the original seat. I was looking at c5 corvette seats, but there wasn't any reason. I just used it as a starting point. They look like $1200/set is a standard price. A little steap, so if u know of something cheaper but still has good quality it would be a big plus. I will be looking theu some of the 2nd gen builds to see what people have done too.

I'm doing '87 GTA Trans Am seats in my '79 Trans Am. '79 and '87 both offered carmine red interior so this ended up being a nice match for what I'm doing. The GTA seats offer mechanical recline, adjustable headrest, rear cargo net, lower seat cushion adjustment and also electric lumbar control. I'm using square tube to mount the 3rd gen seat to my original 2nd gen seat sliders. Once you get these seats, you will see how easy an adapter is to make.

What color interior are you going with?

Here is pic showing the difference between the '79 driver seat and '87 passenger seat....

Don't spend 1200 bucks on worn out heavy OEM seats. Way too expensive for that option, there are deals to be had for sporty OEM seats (think Mitsu EVO, STi, RX-8, etc...) for much cheaper.

Or, purchase these brackets (http://wedgebrackets.com/chevrolet-camaro-75-79-seat-brackets.html) and whatever aftermarket seat you desire. e.g. http://www.summitracing.com/nv/parts/sro-00959crnr/overview/

I found some nice black 00-02 Trans Am seats in leather, with lumbar and all the goodies at the Del Mar Goodguy's show last April, and tried them out. They fit nicely, at least the front holes line up on the driver's seat, didn't check the rears. I'm going to have to clearance the floor slightly for the power seat motor, but otherwise it looks to be an easy bolt in. I guess I'm kind of partial to these seats since I drove a 98 Trans Am for like 7 years.

I have been there, done that. Many of the aftermarket companies sell high quality seats and brackets that bolt in the stock hole. I did 3rd seats years ago and even though I got them to fit with home made brackets, I wasn't very pleased by the look to see the square tubing underneath.

I now have corbeau and their seat brackets.
