Hello, it's been along time since I've posted here but I've been busy on my project. I need a vehicle that I can beat on and not worry about wrecking or even scratching. So this might not be an extreme Budget build, but body work and paint are not a concern. Lots more pics in my photobucket too.

I bought a complete 1941 or 46 body off craigslist (no vin or title)for $150
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/11/image_zpsfaxlzosk-1.jpeg (http://s79.photobucket.com/user/383chevelle/media/image_zpsfaxlzosk.jpeg.html)

I also found an almost finished pro street tube chassis that had been left outside for a few years when the owner died. Paid$ 200 for that off craigslist too.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/11/image_zpshjvjobla-1.jpeg (http:/https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/11/image_zps3utqwey4-1.jpeg

I already had a 2000 5.3 that I didnt have a use for. I started mocking everything up and realized the the tube chassis would have to be cat apart way more than I thought to make it fit the cab.

Nice build!
Cabs so small with these old trucks;
wanted to put some comfy seats in mine, & ran into same space problem you did.
and i see your bed is gonna be about as useful as mine...
Was hoping I could make one at least big enough to haul tools & slicks to the track!

I know!!! I'm tall(6'2) and the hardest part of this build is trying to setup the steering and pedals with out having my knees up to my chest.

Not much to update, the hardest part of this build so far is trying to make a working clutch/brake combo that still leaves me with enough leg room. I've tried every factory setup I can think of, Im going to have to buck up and spend some money on a race pedal setup.

I also wanted to know if anybody could tell me what kind of problems I'm going to run into with trying to get this to an open track day? (Besides the obvious safety gear requirements) but would I not be allowed on a track because it's a chassis of my own design? Any input would be appreciated.

Been drooling over your photos and missed this question.

The car being your own design, should not be an issue. The rules of open track days seem to vary from track-to-track and organizer-to-organizer. NOT all organizers are equal. I've been at some with strict rules, and some where a guy came of the track not wearing a helmet and in flip-flops.

Basic rules apply. No fluids that can leak, no leaks period. Tires in good visual condition. Have the proper safety harnesses and make sure your helmet is current and Snell as you have a 'cage. The battery needs to be fastened securely. Given the build you have, most of this is a no-brainer. I have a couple of organizers that request a minimum of 50% on your brake pads, but they can only see so much during tech.

If a specific car club is doing the open track session they may follow SCCA or FIA rules - which you can google. Or contact the organizer in advance - they like that.

But as I mentioned above, the rules and safety vary widely with the track, organizer and event. Be mindful of this. Once you start going, you'll find a group of people you like to run with. I have a car club here my area called the SPDA, their events are great, safe and they tend to weed out the morons.

I just re-looked at the photos - people are going to beg you to run this. It's so awesome.

I forgot one thing. Roll-bar padding! Get the SFI stuff, nothing else will do, not matter what anyone says. Loads of stock car companies make it, like All Star for example.
