I'm starting to look at LS crate motors for my 55 Chevy. What's the difference between the LS3 430, 480 and 525 hp? From what I can tell it's just the cam. I'd want to do a cam swap anyways, so am I best to buy the 430 and save a few bucks and put that towards the cam swap? I kind of want to get the GM crate motor with t56 package so it's all matched up, but I'd be open to other options for crate motors with 500+ hp, in the same price range as the GM LS3's. Thanks.

Yes it's just the cam. The 525 cam is a bit on the aggressive side at idle. If you're capable of a cam and valve spring swap then i would get the 430hp version.

We can put together a good price on a T56 and LS3 package for you, better than Pace's price. I don't really recommend the GM Super Magnum T56 because it's like $1000 more than the regular Tremec one, for not much added benefit.
Let me know if we can help!

How much HP can the stock bottom end handle safely?

650-700hp supercharged before you need to change the ring gap and may as well throw forged pistons in.

What is the most aggressive cam that can be installed in a stock LS3? I know I'll have to do valve springs, but don't want to tear into the bottom end. I'd do intake upgrades too if it helps make more power. Mostly a street driven car, but I like to push things to the limit.

Big cams need big airflow. So if you're not doing anything with the heads or intake then you're not gaining anything but perhaps a snappy idle. Bigger cams also tend to lose some torque if that's all you're doing.
The 525 cam is about the most aggressive I'd go on the LS3.. In it's stock form. Port the heads and add an intake then you can go more.

Lol there's barely any margins on crate engines these days. I can't give discounts unless there are other items to be purchased like transmissions, serp drives , etc.
