turbo 400 hd

I am getting a 454 and turbo 400hd out of a mid 70's motorhome. I plan on turning the 454 to 496 and rebuilding the trans. Is there anything I need to know about the heavy duty trans that may cause me problems? It is going in a 69 chevelle built for racing/street use.

Is it a long shaft or a short shaft TH 400? Even many of the big cars (B bodies) used long tail shafts vs the short tailshafts for most of the muscle cars.
