I'm putting a LSX 454 in my 67 Camaro and need header advice. I'm running a Detroit Speed subframe, 3inch exhaust and the Jenvey Cross ram intake manifold. The 2 different headers I"m considering are the Detroit Speed 1&7/8 or the American Racing 2inch. The DS headers are 1k move $ and in the past I've always run American Racing Headers on my prior C6 Corvette and on my current Viper so I have loyalty to ARH but the shop I'm working with has experience with the DS headers and he says they will 100% fit and don't hang low below the frame rails. Has anyone run the American Racing LS swap headers in a first gen Camaro with the Detroit Speed Subframe? If so how was the fit? Also with a LSX 454 would you run 2inch or 1&7/8? Here's the link to the American Racing LS swap header.

Go with the Detroit Speed headers that were designed to fit the best with your subframe. As far as header tube size goes, you will always have people thinking that bigger is better but that's not always the case. I had custom headers made by a company and they made me 1 3/4 to 1/ 7/8 step headers. My engine is only 665HP, but they build the same style header with the same size tubes for 900HP naturally aspirated Dirt Late Model engines. Larger tubes generally hurt torque numbers, and among other reasons 2" is way overkill on most engines.
