Want to make good power but I also want decent street manners and I don't want all the power to be on the top end.

Thoughts? Will most likely be a COMP cam. Ones I was considering:

Comp Cams XE-R 224/228/114.

230/236 +2 112 LSA comp XE-R cam

226/226 600 lift on a lsa 112

230/232 .585/.595 with a 112 lsa

the 226/226 seems a bit small.. car will have long tubes and some ported out stage II LS6 heads. Maybe AFR's down the road a bit.

I honestly don't like big cams in LS1/LS2 engines. They don't seem to make much power and cause a nightmere in computer programming.
I seem to recall a Comp cam that was 218/224@050 on a 114LS that make 408RWHP on a 98 Camaro I did (with shorty headers and CNC heads) a few years back

I think either of the 230 cams will make good power. What are you shooting for?

As much power as possible but still streetable and easily drivable. I had a 224/224 cam in my last car and it was pretty damn tame..

I didn't even realize we had an LSx forum.. lol

I'm going to put a Crane 228/232 .600/.600 in my 6.0 Lq4. I chose it for the availabilty up here in canada. I'm going for the same range of power as you, lots of mid range torque and street manners and it should pull to 6200 ish? Vinci also sell this cam relabled as one of theirs.

I think the LS2 being 6.0l will swallow a 230 cam similar to an LS1 will take a 224 cam.

I like the MTI cam, G1 228/232 588/575 113 LSA, MTI recommened to this to me, I guess I'll try it, they seem to know what there talking about,

LOL, I just created the LSX forum a week (or two?) ago. It's just a sub-forum so it's probably hard to spot.

Yeah, a 224/224 is a baby cam, but lots of people are also making great power with small cams these days. I'm probably going to be going with a 224/228 in my SS when I swap h/c over the winter.

Another thing I'm sure you've considered is the extra displacement of the LS2 will give you the ability to run a little bit of a larger cam before drivability is affected compared to an LS1. That being said, I'm no expert on engines, I'm simply basing all of this off of what I've seen and read.

heres a couple figures directly from MTI on an LS2 running Kooks long tubes and high flow cats.

2e heads/C2 cam 415rwhp through an auto
g2 cam 390s rwhp

these are baby cams for this engine.

if you want to stay streetable, which is very subjective considering people claim the G5x3 and Trex2 are streetable, i would not go any higher than a 232 duration honestly. you will have low rpm surge issues and a choppy idle. what your willing to put up with though is another thing. i think 430s NA rwhp on a daily driver is plenty to be proud of and thats easily achieved with the added displacement of the LS2.

I agree with Trey, 430's would be fine in a street car, the G1 is 232,

We recently put a cam called the magic stick its 237/242, .603"/.609", 113 LSA in my brothers 2004 c5,with steel rods ,mahle forged pistons, patriot stage 3 heads, dynatech long tube headers, b&b bullet exhaust ,1.8 rollers, yank 3400 stall with 3.90 gears. This thing rips,we tore it down with only 2000 miles on it,now has 2500,its going to get tuned next week hopefully,it sounds down right mean.
Im building a ls1 for my 73 vette and cant decide on a cam choice yet.

it actually idles very healthy, nice lope to it and no surge, the yank convertor is a really nice piece.Ill try and get a video of it idling and revving it this week.

it doesnt surge while driving in low rpms? thats great if it doesnt. the 3.90s with the auto definetly help that but i would have expected some surging down low in gear. i hate the autos when it comes to tuning for the street, but damn can they rip with the right converter/gear combo.
