Hey all, I need some help and direction. Hope someone can relate to this. I inherited a 67 Tempest Custom from my great uncle. My grandma has power of attorney. We couldn't find the title for the car. We live in MI, car was last titled in his home state of KY.

Whats the proper steps to getting this thing in my name?

Thanks in advance

I don't know about your local laws, but here we can apply for a lost title and since your grand mother has power of attorney she could probably sign all documents.

Grandma with the power of attorney will need to apply for a duplicate title certificate from the KY DMV. Another option is to apply for the transfer of registration in your home state and provide a statement of facts. You probably will need an inspection or a VIN verification but, let DMV tell you what you need to do. Take the registration card/certificate and surrender the plates to your DMV when your start the process.

Should be able to go online and find info needed on paperwork and who too contact. If it hasnt been titled in long time title MAY BE dead and therefore only need a bill of sale/transfer of ownership, like copy of title. For KY with death cert/Power of attorney should be all you need to transfer ownership and get a title. Might take little bit of paper work/leg work but do able.

Recently had to do this same thing. I live in Michigan and the car was from Florida. Go to the Secretary of State (DMV) get the free papers for a duplicate title, take to your insurance company for them to fill out the declaration of facts, take back to DMV and submit. It cost me like $ 100.00 and in two weeks a new title arrived in the mail. Pretty simple process. Tim john---
