Hey everyone I got a 1972 camaro and looking for ideas in what anyone on here has used as front seats in their cars.

I have seen a few fellow 2nd gen folks using nissan 300zx seats and they look good. As well as 4th and 5th gen camaro seats.

Did anyone else pass on the sparco and other big brand aftermarket seats and go for something a Lil different?

Thanks

John

John,

I see a lot of people using BMW 3 series convertible seats because they have an integrated seat belt. My buddy is using them in his 66 Fairlane.

I put some black 02 Trans Am Seats in my Firebird, and at least on the driver's side so far, it's a near bolt in minus clearancing needed for the power seat motor. They look nice, I think, and I'm kind of partial to them since I rode in a set of these seats for 7 years in my 98 Trans Am.

I bought these and the rear buckets for my 1966 Chevelle, haven't got them in yet though.

Nice. They look like they are going to fit good in there

Dodge Stealth GT seats in my 64 Fairlane
Dodge Neon SRT4 (viper) in my 65 Falcon. 4 door Neon seats don't break over like the viper seats, so back seat access is tight.

I saw some late model Toyota Camry seats in a Duster recently. They looked pretty good.

Those ctsv seats look awesome in there. They go perfectly w rest of the interior. You have the rear seat made to match?

Depends on what comfort, weight & hugging limits you are looking for. But I have use Pontiac Sunfire seats in a number of cars. The non power ones are super light and really pretty comfortable.

I did the BMW seats for the reason mentioned above - the seatbelts. Plus they tilt forward and have the power express whole-seat forward, but that is only important if you plan to use the back seat.

I've used seats out of a 2014 Mustang GT. There is a thread under the interior section.

I believe there's substantial risk in using seats with integrated belts outside of the application they were designed to work in. Restraint systems are tested (at least they were back when I was doing it back before time began) by loading the belt through the H point, essentially a block belted into the seat that defined where the 95 percentile humans hips would more or less be. At that time, a 5000 lb load to emulate a 250lb guy decelerating at 20g was loaded through the H block, w/o failure was the requirement for passing, plus 20X the weight of the chair through it's cg.

So to assume the belt will securely hold, you need to believe that the seat to floor fastening system you devised can handle a 5000 load through the belt AND an additional 20X the seat weight. Fo a 50 lb chair, that puts you at abou 6000 lb loading. Better put a few more fender washers under those nuts under the floor.

My friend welded massive brackets to the floor to mount the seats.

20Gs is roughly crashing into an incompressible object at 30 mph and the car coming to a stop in a under a tenth of a second. But that's the car coming to a stop over the course of a few feet, the passenger comes to a stop only after the car does and in a far shorter space and the Gs are much higher. My math might be off but it looks like you tested your seat belts to make a low-speed crash technically survivable (at best).
Regardless, I'm in no way disagreeing that simply bolting seats to the floor would be a bad idea, but then again so is riding around in seats without headrests and lap-only belts in cars without airbags or airbags or crumple zones. I'd be surprised if any single mounting point could bear that kind of load, but fortunately that load is spread out. Absent a demonstrable reason not to be, I'm more inclined to trust a well-braced shoulder belt seat with grade 10 hardware through the original frame plus sheet steel over a two-bolt lap belt solution. Again, I'm with you on doing it right, but I don't think anything about our cars as shipped 45 years ago is necessarily inherently safer than what can be done today.

Mitsubishi Eclipse ~2005 I think, power driver, very tightly packaged.
I had to narrow the slide rails so they would sit low enough but did not take much.
Passenger side tilts up and slides forward for easy rear seat access.
Had to dye them black but like how it turned out. Seat is leather with vinyl sides (painted those pieces).

It all depends on the mounts whether the seat fit or not.Or you might have to make your own.
