I have a stock 69 Camaro with power steering. I also have a donor '97 Z28. Q1 - Can I use rack and pinion parts from the '97? Q2 - Will it be a significant improvement over the stock power steering? This car will be to drive to work. LT1/T56. I'm not racing at all.

I have no personal experience with the newer rack types on older cars but I have talk to some that had the BRP and Steeriods setups and they felt little differnce. Also some complained about bump steer issues that did not exsist before. Tony(nineball) had a BRP setup and hopfully he will chime in.

The 97 is a front steer. There are pretty significant changes nessesary to use the 4th gen rack.

I have a unisteer rack on my 69, and while I have not driven the car with it yet, others have reported positive feedback on the unisteer.

If you are just driving to work, I'd go with a napa rebuilt stock box if yours is broke.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your input. I'm gathering as much info as possible and building my plans and timeline. I'm sure I'll have many more suspension questions when I finish cleaning.

I didn't find any previous posts where people had used a 4th gen rack, so I suspected that it wasn't easily adapted to the rear steer 69.
