I wish they would maybe switch out Foose once in while. Great guy, incredible talent but it is just too much Foose for me. They are all starting to look alike. I guess he is selling those wheels now as they have been on the last 3 or so cars.

I will continue to watch as what the hell else is on.

By the way Courtney wasn't all that anyway. Happy starring at new chick. They should just ditch the dude at this point..

I thought Courtney was pretty hot,, The new girl seems rather dull. I enjoy the show, but like the other guys I would like more on the actual build itself. They could back off the prank scenes and spend more time on the build for us gearheads...:revto9k:

I got sick of the pranking scenes early on - enough that I'd long quit watching before Courtney left.

If they dropped the pranks and spent more time on the build, I'd probably start watching again - don't care (much) if there's a chick or not, unless she's a useful part of the build.

Good point. It would be kinda interesting to see what another builder could do on that show. Like maybe the guys at Detroit Speed, Unique Performance, or Rad Rides. It would also open the show up to candidates outside of southern California. I really think the last few people on that show knew right off the bat that they were being overhauled. The guy with the Impala (last nights show) he knew, he was laughing at the Customs Agent. This is why they've got to get it out of southern California. That area's all tapped out.

And I agree....I'm getting a little tired of Foose. It's nothing personal, he's a great guy and a fantastic talent, I've just had my fill of him. Every 5 minutes they're either showing the guy on camara or they're praising him or talking him up like a bunch of crazed groupies. His a nice guy and a great talent.....WE GET THE PICTURE.....ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

I got bored with Overhaulin a while back.. too much of the "prank" and not enough of the car.. And if you are in a situation involving a midget and a supermodel then maybe that should be a hint that you are on TV..

I usually watch the first 5 and last 5 of the show to see the before and after.. the rest is just fluffy filler..

Keep in mind we are NOT this shows demographics.. which explains why they have a hard time getting product sponsors and especially shops.. they have burned through most shops in SoCal at this point. Everyone has figured out that they get no business from being on the show and it costs them a ton..

I Agree, the pranks eat up way too much of the show, imo. I would rather watch Foose any day over Boyd..:bsjerk: .

I would be curious as to what the recipients have done with their cars after the show, I saw on another forum that a couple of them had been on Ebay.

Steve, I watch the first and last 10 minutes or so too. Just to see the before/after. I think the pranks are just stupid, they spend too much time on those.

I also agree it would be cool if they used different builders/designers sometimes.

As for the sponsorship thing, I can honestly say I haven't bought a single product just because I saw it on Overhaulin. They don't even talk about the products too much, just a fast camera sweep of them and a mention.

LMAO when the midget had the mark take a knee so he could explain why his car was only worth 4,000, but as a whole I hate the pranks. I would luv to see just installation/ repair footage of the projects, I'll go to the lake to see hot chicks in bikinis.

I think they need to branch out and get out of LA as well. It seems like they are winding up with more and more crappy cars. The result winds up being most of their time and effort dedicated to bodywork and fixing rust with little time or money apparently left over for performance related items.

Its turning into the following script:
Teardown
Find horrible rust
Cut up donor car or weld in a ton of Goodmark stuff
Fix rust
Fix rust
Fix rust
Rush to paint
Install interior
Bolt on Foose Wheels and nice tires
Done

Even the paint jobs have become less creative.

Yea and less sponsor plugs. It seems like they've gotten way worse compared to when the show first started.

Damn True
10-26-2005, 01:28 PM
The sponsor plugs are a necessary evil. They wouldn't be able to do that show every week, pay the builders, pay for materials etc unless they were getting shop time and parts for free or charging the vendors/shops to use their stuff in exchange for "promotional consideration". That kind of thing goes for big big money in TV land.

Did you notice when Jerry Seinfelds bike (the one that hung on the wall next to the bathroom door) switched from a Klein to a Specialized? That little switch cost Specialized about $500k.

That's because they are worthless.. especially to the shops.. so they promise to make them bigger so they are now worth a little more than nothing..

Like I said.. they have burned they way through most of the shops around here. They come in.. tie up the shop for a week.. toss out a quick plug and then off to the next shop. Costs the shop a ton of $$$ and they get almost nothing out of it cept being able to say "we was on Overhaulin.."

An idea was floated that instead of the prank that they overhaul the persons car while they are away.. (like that show "while you were out").. get the owner out of town on some premise and do the car..

Was shot down.. Discovery said "people want the prank.. that IS the show" or something along those lines.. If you don't know your being overhauled at this point then you are pretty dense..

Didn't notice.. think that deal netted them half million bucks in extra profits? Doubt it..

Most place I talk too have seen very little to any sales generated from being a sponsor of the show.. why you ask?

Simple.. most of the people who watch the show are not "car people".. sure they like cars but they don't have one so how would they buy the products? The car people the watch the show already know about the products.. You think someone says.. "wow, Jegs sells engines.. I think I will order one from them.."

I know where Overhaulin will be filming from here on out but Im not sure I am allowed to tell.. lets just say the main shop will be stationary..

Yep, they overheated it durring the burn out sceen.. it never ran right afterwards..

There are a few of the car cruising around here.. overall they are nice but i have seen more than a few on Ebay since the owners have no idea what to do with them once done (or how to care for them)..

Actually, I used to work for Specialized. That particular model of bike sold like hotcakes, and overall sales and the number of dealers increased dramaticly and if you recall, the bike shop down the street that they always walked in front of....HUGE Specialized sign in the window. Product placement does work, thats why companies like Pepsi and Reeses (E.T.?) pay so much to have their products placed in movies and TV shows. It dosent work with overhaulin because the portion of the audience that might actually buy the parts featured is so small, as for the shops, I live in San Jose and I'm not going to take my car to San Ysidro to a shop that happend to be on the show.

Cannondale got on the wall in the back once too, actually all the bikes belonged to Michael Richards (Kramer). But Specialized got the deal to change the Klein and had the shop sign from the begining.

I knew the product placements were getting out of control when they had one a long the lines of: "Hey! We are really hungry, so we just happened to decide to get KFC!". Then they had a 20 second or so scene of Courtney and the other Overhaul'n crew members eating fried chicken.

I agree, more build and fab. stuff, and I would be all for a show called "Fun time drawing with Chip", for me watching the guy draw for a half hour would be better then watching him lay down stripes or pretend to be homeless.

Does anybody know if they are going to be at SEMA again? I am not a big fan of the show anymore, but I have noticed they have changed how they prank people quite a bit. Still involves same amount of the show but bigger bang in the end instead of messing with them all week.
I perk up occasionally when they show how they made some neat mod but thats about it.

Exactly, it also gives people a false sense of credibility, that the "shop" they used does great work whether they do or not just because they were on the show. I think the pranks are stupid. I actually like the show Rides better because atleast they show more details about the cars they are working on..

Rides is cool, Courtney was better than this broad because at least she was a car chick! I could do w/o the pranks. My Father in law has worked on a couple of the Overhaulin cars. Crazy hours. Car guys can do without Chris too!

Hey...I met Chris in Detroit last year. He's definitely a car guy.

One company that has sunk a ton of money into that show is Hotchkis. Edelbrock's dropped some serious coin too.

I'd like to hear from Paul at Hydratech on this Overhaulin' sponsership stuff. He donated a brake unit on one of the shows a while back. I wonder how much business he projects he got from that.

Sorry to hear that they will have a permanent home from now on. This most likely means it's going to stay in So-Cal and the pranks will get worse and worse. Oh well....maybe they'll do a 2nd Overhaulin' series at a shop somewhere out east or in the Midwest.

Steve,

That is absolutely 100% correct! TLC could care less about true car enthusiasts, we are just bonus viewers. They want the marginally interested in cars and the folks that really aren't. You know the kind who bring their kids to shows and set them free to climb on show cars and stick their cotton-candy mits on the 20K paint jobs.....

I have been working with a production company that is finishing a pilot show that will appeal to most real "car guys" and was meant to from the very begining.

There will be no professional builders, no high dollar builds, no millionaire owners, and especially no infomercial cameos from CEO's or owners daughters to "pitch" their newest product.(YUK)

The show should hit the air late this year.... I will keep you all posted. :icon996:

How hot was the girl that got her Magnum Overhauled?

...and what a sweetheart too. I'd have come unstuck if I'd driven down to the dealer to pick up my car and not only could they not find the paperwork, they didn't know where the car was. She took that rather well AND gave the service dude a bottle of scotch.

I dunno if all 8 of those kids were hers, but it's a pretty fair bet that she has had a little bit of "Overhaulin" done on her as well.

It is after all, Los Angeles, the real "Silicone Valley".
