Hey guys and gals,
I've spent quite an extended period of time perusing your forums and researching for a couple of projects, and so I want to say thank you for providing a place where great discussion and documentation can happen. The wealth of information and experience on this board is such a blessing and encouragement for guys who've been working on cars for years and for those who've never turned a wrench. Thank you to all the contributors!
I've got a couple of projects I'd like to share with you. The first is a 1965 Buick Riviera that I dragged out of a field in SW KS. Here's a pic of me bringing it home.

I've got the front end stripped off of it, the engine and trans out and what was left of the nasty interior ripped out.
Here's how it sits now.

My plans are to clean up and re-gasket the engine, flush the fluids (duh!) and toss a new carb on it. The wiring is also pretty awful, and one of the major expenses will be to put a chassis harness from painless wiring in the car and update things like the lighting with LED's. I plan on custom making my door panels and dash pad and putting in seats from like a sebring convertible or another car that has built in shoulder harnesses.
The exterior will be my first attempt at rust repair and painting, and I'm okay with that. It will likely be flat white with the chrome all blacked out, as the bumpers are in pretty sad shape. The car is almost ready to head to my friends house for a sand and powder blasting, and then I'll drag it back to my house to shoot it with some weld-through primer to keep the rust off for a while.
My goal is for it to be a budget friendly hot-rod. I paid $750 for it, and the big money will be going into the suspension and wiring, though I'll fix things as they need to be repaired. I'll try to make due with some temporary fixes, like a home-made plexi-glass windshield (current one is broken) and seats from other cars. It will be a fun interpretation of an old luxury coupe.
My other project is a 1981 Datsun 280ZX that is rust free but ugly. The PO plasti-dipped the car black.

This car runs and drives, but has a couple of broken pieces of glass. I've got them in my garage right now, but I'm currently in the process of chasing down a couple of electrical issues, which should get it to the point where I'm ready to yank the old L28 and stuff a 5.3 and 4L60 in it. This car will be my first attempt to build motor mounts, as it appears that there are plenty for the 280Z, but not the ZX S130 cars. Its already an automatic, so I'm hoping to keep it as stock looking as possible with a quiet exhaust. It's originally brown, and I'd like to go back to that color with the paint issues fixed.
So, those are my current projects and I thought I'd share them with you.
Enjoy,
Chris
