I've looked but I can't find what I'm looking for, so here goes..

Does anyone have a template of the tunnel cutout for the T56 in a first gen Camaro? Or even a rough idea? I hate to cut the floor and then decide later that, that was way too much.

Any help is always appreciated.

I used the tunnel cover from Speedtech. Easy to use, allowed the trans to be raised to achieve the correct driveline angle and the factory console could be used over the cover. Some slight mods have to be done to the console, but are not visible when done.

Different car, but here's what I had to cut for my mustang.

I used the chassisworks tunnel cap listed above. I initially bought the speedtech cap but it was shaped opposite of what I needed to raise the trans tailshaft. When I called speedtech they said it was designed to be used w speedtech subframe, which I dont have. Very nice work on the above yellow car by the way

I got my floor cut out yesterday afternoon, hope it's not too big. If nothing else I can fabricate something around it like Zachalanche above.. Now I've got to find a clutch disc with the 26 spline instead of the 10 spline I had in it. And to think, my old disk only had 138 miles on it...

That looks clean. I think you will find you will need to go just about to the firewall, as the bellhousing will contact in the transition area where the tunnel meets the firewall. The chassisworks cap was pretty easy to install, as it has a stepped lip where it meets the existing floor tunnel. The hard part was making the transition pieces from the end of the cap to the firewall. Keep in mind I had never done this and I'm still a novice welder.

I thought about making my tunnel cover removable, yet be able to seal it up.

if you go to DSE's website and check out their builds, they make a really nice cover for the shifter area that is removeable.

Thanks, I'll go look. I'll tell you guys one thing, since I have to change the disc from a 10 spline to a 26 spline I had to remove bell housing, and clutch assy. Normally this wasn't a problem 30 years ago, but now.... Geez this is hard laying on my back on the concrete, and of course Andrew's at work! And, now I've got a 11" clutch disc with 173 miles on it for sale, I'll post in the "for sale" section.

Carl,
It's too bad you have to swap disks but at least they are a relatively inexpensive part of the clutch assy. Don't forget to install the extended pilot bearing while you have the clutch apart. Do you currently have the short or long clutch release bearing? In my experience, the long release bearing works better because it moves the clutch fork away from hitting the firewall when the clutch pedal is depressed. This is the release bearing I'm using.

Steve,
I currently have the short throw out bearing. I bought the ext. pilot bearing you suggested Summit had it. I want to thank you for all your help. i'll be putting this back together as soon as I get my new disc in. I thought i'd maybe do a thread on this build with the part numbers and pictures for any one else that might want to do the LT T56 swap.

Bowler Transmissions also carries a nice one.
