Looks amazing dude! Knocked it out of the park man. Are you glad that you did it all yourself? I was encouraging you to do it, so I'm curious your thoughts now that you are to the polishing stage.

I’m very happy I tackled paint and body myself, it’s certainly an achievement and one that’s worthwhile looking at the end product.

The biggest reason I painted it myself was mostly out of impatience after being messed around by some painters and waiting too long. A few weeks ago a really good painter I’d been keeping in contact with became available so instead of converting my garage into a booth yet again I gave him the unpainted panels and he shot them all, DA’d most in 800 and gave them back for me to finish.
The quality of his work off the gun was that much better than mine that the wetsanding process is a breeze. Had my schedule dragged this far I probably should have just given him the whole car to keep it simpler.

Good deal man. All I know is that when I was at a show and someone asked who painted it, I always got a huge grin when I told them I did.

Depends on the inflection of how they ask that question haha

Time for the car has been minimal at best but I've managed to make some progress on the fun things. I finalised some areas of paint to the point I could install emblems.
I also reworked and repainted the front grille and trim.

I then pushed it out into the driveway and got a proper look at everything for the first time.

She looks damn good on a cloudy day, I'll give her that.

I wanted to spin her around so I could get onto the rear of the car, looking to get that end finished out and the tail panel painted satin black also.

Fantastic job man! Can't wait to see some pictures in the sunlight. For a second I thought you did some AAR Cuda ghost strips on the side, then I realized it was the reflection from the fence haha.

Heyyyy don’t insult me!! Haha. It took me a long time to like this hood, some days I’m still on the fence about it. In my mind it’ll be perfect with magnusons open-style supercharger snout showing through it but the two problems with that are that they don’t sell it(yet), and also because I don’t have a magnuson supercharger… (yet)

The hood originates from 1st gen corvettes and I believe 400 yenko Camaros came with it once upon a time.

I wanted to make sure I was done with wetsanding before the cooler months strike, I definitely overcommit with the squirty bottle and I’m still up late some nights perfecting different areas.
With this in mind I wanted to finish out the rear end of the car so I could paint the tail panel in satin black.
Finished it today after about 6 late nights straight and I’m very pleased with the results!

Thanks for the nice words. It sure has been a rewarding process regardless of being incredibly slow. My profession as a maritime officer means I really only have half a year at home and only a marginal amount of that time to actually work on the car.
It does however give me a lot of time to research and plan each stage going ahead.
I hope to stay consistent and get this thing finished in the not too distant future.

I got stuck into the wiring recently, really enjoyed it and let my OCD shine. Not every part is finalized but I’m quite happy with the layouts I chose. Although I used an AAW update kit I was surprised how little I actually got to utilize out of the box as everything is different now.
I chose to install the fuse box to the left of the steering wheel because the 5th gen dash has a removable panel there.
It’s not the most glamorous stage to photograph unfortunately, as a good job means you typically don’t see anything, but here’s something as I finally started putting things in for the last time. 212262

Wow killer build. You will love the track time package. I'm thrilled with the handling of mine. If I had to do over I'd go speed tech extreme up front . Who knows might still someday but it handles great.
Your not far from enjoying it.

Thanks, I’m looking very forward to getting it done. I’d also prefer the extreme package, I ordered this one roughly a month before they announced the new subframe a few years back

Thanks, I appreciate it. Painting it myself was never part of the plan, but as I learned more, and tackled the bodywork, I figured why the hell not, if I fail I just revert back to the original plan. In the end the result is great

I have been very busy with the electronics whenever I have had the chance.
In this time I’ve managed to connect the battery and actually confirm everything is operational, and after a build of this duration it is incredibly rewarding!

Classic instrument autocross gauges are installed and working! I opted for the fuel gauge between the gauges and the oil pressure and water temp will be situated above the console.
I also got the stereo working completely. Alpine Apple play double din with 4 way amplifier plus truck subwoofer mounted under the parcel shelf.

What is really nice on the dash is I found these great little 8mm dash lights on Amazon to use as full beam, indicator and engine warning lights and hidden them above and below the fuel gauge.

I also tested all body lights successfully but don’t have any pics so here’s just a few showing how she’s currently sitting.

Almost the whole engine is wired up as well and looking surprisingly neat.

Hey Don,

It certainly looks like it's done, but it certainly isn't.
I've spent a lot of time in Australia this past year for work, I even rebuilt a boat in that time. Unfortunately I haven't had all that much free time to even look at the car.

I'll add one thing, I opted for standard glass over flush mount to stick to the original styling, but let me just say that installing(still installing) the rear stainless trim around the window was hands down the most frustrating part of this whole build.

Is it done yet? :)

Looks awesome Jim. Very clean.

Restored and polished original moldings fit better than repops. Some repops are better than others. Clips made in China suck too. Altha Fastener on eBay sells some decent clips.

These are most likely decent clips.

Thanks Don, I now have an assortment of originals. my issue was the curve at the top on either side appears slightly more aggressive than most, the third pair I found matched the curve but they pop off. I hadn't considered the clips!! I will definitely order a new set of clips and try again.

If the clips are silver or black they are likely Chinesium garbage.
