I'm preparing to install aftermarket upper and lower trailing arms on my '84 Monte Carlo SS. I've eyeballed the lowers, looks straight forward. But after checking out the uppers I'ved got questions. When removing and replacing the bolt that holds the arm to the chassis, is there a nut that's tucked away? I can feel it but how do I get to it? There are bushings on the "ears" of the rear end housing, is there a special tool to remove and replace them? Thank you in advance.

The nuts are on the opposite side of the rear crossmember. You can see them if you are under the middle of the car looking backward toward the bumper.

There are a few press type tools out there but they tend to be costly (although effective). Many mechanics drill out the rubber bushings so the middle sleeve will come out then gently tap the housing out.

Can this tool be found at any neighborhood parts store or does this have to ordered from say an Eastwood type company? Does this tool also help install the new bushing?

Small chance at parts store. Maybe OTC or K-D brand.

Most popular is from Hotchkis.
