How many hours would I be looking at to swap from a turbo 400? I would have a my painter do it. What would I need other than the tranny? Thank you

Need more info.. What motor is it going to mate with?
If Pontiac Motor I can thing of : Chevy to BOP adapter plate, new convertor, driveshaft cut and balance, trans crossmember relocated, possible massaging of the trans tunnel, I would add the Shiftworks kit if you plan on keeping the factory shifter(adds indicators for overdrive), and TCU to control the trans.
I can add or remove items once I know what motor you actually have.

Is it carbureted? If it is, you will need the TPS kit that the trans controller uses for throttle position to control shifting.
Everything else in the list should be what you need for the swap. I had put this list together myself because I intended to put a 4L80E behind an Olds 455. I did use an aftermarket crossmember from GForce though.
The TCI EZ TCU is a simple solution, TCI also sells the Chevy to BOP adapter plate. Compushift is on the there end of cost, but it is more granular programming. There are many TCU's out there depending on your need and budget.
