Hi, new guy here.

I am building a 1967 camaro that I minitubbed and I am wondering if a 315/35/17 tire will fit on a 10" wide wheel.

The reason I am asking is I wanted to stay with a fat lip style wheel and not have to pay the extra $400 each for custom widths.

I have already purchased the tires and they are Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dwayne

What sidewall profile?

10" isn't bad for a 315.

What wheels charge $400 more for a wider hoop? Most 11-13" aren't much more than 10's

In my experience just about every company. To get past the 10" threshold, two hoops are usually cut and welded together (two 8"ers were required for my 18x12s). So I guess I'm rolling on six wheels? :dunno:

What brand wheels are you guys looking at? I've been looking at some new wheels for a while and CCW's aren't that much more for the bigger widths. That and they are all from one piece hoops, only time I have heard of merging 2 hoops was to widen existing wheels. Maybe it's different with the highend wheels, who knows.

Just looked at the HRE site and from 10-12" their prices run $100-250 more per wheel. From them i'm not surprised considering each wheel is $1500+

If someone wants $400 more per wheel to get 12" i'd be looking at a different wheel maker.

The wheels I am looking at are the Phantom 5 from Intro. The reason they are $400 to widen is because I wanted to stay with the fat lip style of wheel.

It was alot less if I wanted to go with the step lip.

Thanks

And that would be because Intro doesn't stock hoops larger than 10" for standard stuff. Honestly I wouldn't buy another set of Intros (I have them now, custom Viking 6's) They are overly heavy and don't come in enough sizes. I'll likely be changing mine out for a set of CCW's or DTMs

A 315 will fit on a 10" wide wheel, but it is something that is not advised by any manufacturer. Most suggest an 11-12" wide wheel.

I've sen them on 9.5s before, and it looked pretty pinched. I imagine the 10s being better.

Ran into the same deal with my Budniks. Went with 315 tire on 11" rim, even though I wanted a 335 on a 12" rim. They have 11" and 13" as 'standard' sizes, with about $400 more to go with a 12".

I'm looking for a wheel that looks like the FM10's or the or CCW SP20's. I'm looking for 17x11's and 17x9.5's for my 77 TA. Are there any other wheels that look similar but cost less?

I have a 315/35/17 on a 10 and it is fine. I too wanted an 11 but couldn't get the flat lip hoop I desired in anything over a 10.

Just think in terms of about 30mm wide for every inch of wheel width. Obviously the shorter the sidewall the less tire width you can get. IOW use a 295 or 305 on a 10" wide rim. I have seen 315's on 9.5" and 10" rims, but as others have said they look pinched. And when taht happens you sacrifice traction. It is just like when I tried running 275/60/15 of a 15x8 Rallye. It always wore out in the middle and didn't grip as well as when I went to a 255/60/15.

THere is no fat lip hoop made anywhere to my knowledge wider than 10
if you want a fat lip profile wider than 10 two hoops must be welded together this is how....

Intro
Budnik
Billet Specialties
Colorado Customs(bankrupt)
DPengineering....
etc
etc

To my knowlegde they all have to do this!

Of course 3piece is different

I also heard that CCW wheels are not DOT approved.....Just what I heard
