I want to take my 1966 Lemans convertible on vacation. Florida to California and down to Jackson Hole Wy. Does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure you for a trip like this? Or maybe an add on policy that can be wrote for a short time. I have the car insured for $40,000 now , but when I got the policy a couple of years ago I was told NO PROBLEM. During a discussion with an other car guy he told me I had better make sure the guy was right.

Your policy should be pretty clear about this. Why not call the insurance company and ask them specifically.

I did that is why I am trying to find a company that does insure traveling. If you take your car anywhere that is NOT car event related you could run into trouble. Take it to work on a Friday with no car event and it is wrecked or stolen you could have a problem.

Find a car show at your destinations lol

Actually read your policy, it will spell it out. Hagerty would cover me

Hagerty WILL NOT COVER YOU!!! That is who , when I put the car on the road told me they would. When I called today I was told NO! It only covers you going to car shows. Seems they think that cars are more safe at shows. Hagerty will cover your car as you build it and increase the value as you add parts. If your car is wrecked or stolen you had better be going to a car event.

Their add on policy is in case the car is wrecked and you are traveling. It does not cover vacation types of trips

I recently switched from State Farm to Hagerty. During the online application process, I specifically stated the car would be used for road trips, occasional use to/from work, and occasionally run errands. An underwriter called me to ask some specific questions, and I was approved.

I have asked my State Farm agent about this. It's not as cheap as a collector car policy, but they can value a classic car as a regular driver. They'll need a breakdown on costs, appraisal, and so forth, and you'll be rated more like a $40k new car, so it's definitely not going to be a $100 a year deal, probably more like $100 a month. But you gotta do whatever it takes to make sure you're 100% protected.
