Anyone have experience with relocating a battery to the rear of an El Camino?

It looks like I might be able to squeeze it between the frame rail and passenger side quarter panel. Maybe use a mount like this one? http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/10224/10002/-1?parentProductId=1447415

Other options would be to put it in the bed (cutting cargo capacity) or in the smuggler's box (difficult to get to, not as much of a weight transfer).

Smugglers box- that's where mine is going. Hinge the cover, put a power stud to the engine compartment.

Smugglers box has a transverse support- weld up a frame (I've seen several- Like this one the best) http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344142 post 6 hinged w/ a latch and a pull cord from the interior, struts to lift the cover.

I'm assuming you're talking about the '69 elCamino

Weight in the smuggler box is good weight centalization, better for cornering, less good for drag racing

That's a nice looking support frame. Only thing I'd worry about is keeping it sealed nicely.

Actually I have not tried but anything is possible. You could use computer aided drawing software to simulate your project. Using CAD will be helpful specially in relocating your wiring harness which I think will be tricky. You could find a local automotive electrician in your area to help you with your project.
