Pypes Exhaust is about to release mandrel bent 3" tail pipes that fit 2nd generation Firebirds and Camaros with the DSE Quadralink rear suspension. They plan to offer them as a complete system with x-pipe and mufflers or the tailpipes separately. I have done all the test fitting with the prototypes and production pieces and they fit great. These are going to be a great solution for you guys trying to fabricate exhaust. You can contact them directly for more information and pricing. The part number is TGF15.

The 70 Nova kit works with the 1st gen quad link . You have to chop the tail pipes and adjust to clear. But they do work.

800-421-3890 is the number for Pypes. The tail pipe part number is TGF15 I think. I'm not sure they have a part number for the complete system but it uses their standard offset/center muffler and their standard tunnel x-pipe.

Due to the variation of different brand headers and engine combinations the system runs from the cross member back, collector reducers are optional. For those of you not familiar with Pypes all their products are stainless steel, mandrel bent and fully TIG welded where needed. I know pricing has not been released to their dealers yet but maybe I can get Dave on to clarify.

FWIW, I did call in...the two folks I talked to knew very little. The first guy I talked to said it was a cat back system....didn't know my 70 Camaro had a dual exhaust with Cats fom the factory.....
What I really don't understand, the kit was obviously designed for the DSE quadra link and the kit is obviously installed on a car with the DSE frame with DSE headers yet Pypes offers no support for the v-band collectors like they do for all the other header types. Can we get a set of collectors like the ones installed on the test car?

if you can weld its not that hard to modify exhaust tailpipes. I used the dynatech muscle maxx stainless steel exhaust. I cut the rear tail pipes into 3 sections and reclocked them. Fits like a glove. After that i wanted to make sure they were removable so i cut the runner from the muffler to the quadralink and installed a V band clamp from summit. Summits V band clamps are highly recommended. They have a male and female end to lock together and create a solid seal

No it is not available to our dealers just yet. For fear of breaking any forum rules I don't want to get into selling but we do have inventory and are offering deals for people who call in.

My apologies for that the systems are brand new and all our staff is not up to speed on them just yet. To better answer your second question. All Pypes systems are transmission cross member back to account for different powertrains and header/manifold configurations. It would be impossible for us to provide solutions for every variation. This car happened to be a LS swap with DSE headers so a custom collector was fabricated to account for the collector angle. The same situation would of occurred if the car was a big block with long tubes or a small block with shorty headers.

Is just the 2nd Gen available now? Or is the 1st Gen available as well?

For right now just the 2nd gen is available. There are plans for a first gen kit depending on sales of this kit and the availability of a car.

Hold on here....Dave are you using a tank designed to clear those pipes? I have a Rick's Tank with notches and I do not have room to route the rail pipes there. Maybe a little bit of room of get it to clear, but there is no room for suspension movement.

how do you not have room? Are you saying you dont have room between the tank and the shock? Is there room difference between a 1st and 2nd gen?

Because its a lot tighter in there than it looks. The pieces sold by pypes are different than what's posted in the pics. I would like to see this installed with pics closer to the areas I'm concerned about. The tank will need to come down to install this I think. Am I the only one who's bought this kit???

Sorry I have been away from the site doing other development work. To answer your questions the pipes you received in the kit are exactly the same as pictured in the way they are bent. The pictures are of the prototype tubes and yours are production parts which are a lot cleaner with less welds then the prototypes. I wish we could provide you with more pictures but we do not own the car and it's several states away so access will be hard. The kit is very simple to install and can be done with the tank in place and the car at ride height, in fact the final install of the production system was done on a drive on lift. Here is a link to the instruction which can be found on the Pypes website. http://pypesexhaust.com/attachment/335011-SGF15-SGF15R-TGF15-instructions.pdf

This tail pipe system DOES NOT fit! I tried it in many direction, the best position the hangar is floating in space with nowhere to attach it.
Pypes is closed over the weekend, but sending looking to send this $1000 kit back!

Do they give you any information regarding the fuel tank and tire/wheel package dimensions that were used on the prototyping vehicle. Without knowing that specific information it would be difficult to determine what the tailpipes will clear.

The system was tested with a Rick's tanks and the DSE standard HRE 345 rear tire combination.

Just an update as I was thinking about this today....took the kit to a muffler shop and they confirmed the tail pipes would not clear the pan hard bar. They ended up installing the main system and cost me $150.
I sent the tail pipes back to pipes.....no responses...no refund...crickets. Anyone buy and install this kit?

This is disappointing. Was thinking about this kit for my project. Was it that it won't fit, or you just couldn't get it into position with the tank and/or suspension parts in place?

I'll post a picture, the pipe that come off the muffler goes up and over the axle and instead of going over the pan hard bar it runs dead smack in the middle of it. The exhaust shop told me to go under the axle to make it work, but right now it just dumps before the axle.

I got got the kit in Saturday and so far it has fit. It's missing one tailpipe and I'll need to shorten the X pipe assembly ito go around my crossmember but otherwise I like it.
I'll post up pics. It's not completely bolted in but you will get the idea..

It would have met up perfectly with the headers had the x pipe been back 6 more inches. Going to have to shorten those long runs so the x-pipe is behind the cross member and then add that back in at the collectors. A little frustrating but nothing that isn't accomplished easily enough.
Just need that passenger side tailpipe...:hand:
