I plan on keeping my factory center console because it's a little rare to have one but I'm machining a new insert out of aluminum to replace what you see in wood grain:

I've got the basic dimensions roughed in for the CNC mill but right now it's just a little plain:

The shifter opening is moving some and shrinking as much as I can get away with (now a TKO 5 speed). The rear cutout is a flip up panel for an ash tray. I don't need or want the ash try so that gives me room for a cup holder and I was thinking of maybe locating the 4 gang power window switch here to keep them off the front doors. Too busy if I do that?
I also have the option of milling an "SS" somewhere in there and filling in with enamel. Also, the shift pattern emblem is no longer needed - the correct one is on the shift ball.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

How about a sliding metal door (a period feature) concealing 2 or more USB ports to power a device of
your choice? Love the idea of keeping the classic wood grain and metal-look features.

I'm actually losing the wood grain. I like the style of the earlier SS consoles though.

Moving along, I've got this:114902
I still have the empty space at the back.
Could add a flip up door like the original with phone/usb stuff but I could just as easily add that in the big storage area under the plastic console lid.

Maybe a cup holder but I just don't know if I even want one in the car.

Ok, I want the cup holder. Shifter location is still not set, plus I need to find somewhere to get a boot/retainer ring that is smaller than the floor shift assemblies. Don't need a 6x5" hole in the thing.
Also carried over the SS style if 69 had been more than a badge package like in prior years. The center emblem is from a 63 model, the billet cup holder insert is from a marine supply, and the period correct switches are more compact.
I think I'm happy with this variant.
