Looking for recommendations for reputable paint shops in the California Bay Area. I'm willing to travel to shops within reasonable distance.

Looking to paint my 67 Camaro.

Where are you located? What are you trying to do to your floor. I know of two great fab shops in the bay area, just not familiar with paint shops. Let me know if you needed a recommendation.

I'm in Livermore, CA

Want to have the floor replaced, there are 2 less then stellar patches and lots of rust. I want it gutted, AMD single piece floor, and the entire interior media blasted and POR or painted so that when I'm working on it, I'm happy vs seeing rust and want to just walk away. (I'm willing to do some of that, but i'm not a welder and not ready to learn on replacing a floor). Although I do have a lift in my garage.

I know I need rockers and need some work on the trunk weatherstripping (that area has been eaten away, but fenders and stuff look good), I'm sure there are other areas. The body has been taken off the frame and I'm missing half the bolts it seems, and many are just spinning, so that means the cage nuts are uncaged, which will require some work as well.

Just wish there was someone trustworthy, talented and local..

Tory

I actually found a shop in sj. My neighbor across the street took his two 67 camaro's there and years later they still look awesome. Took it all the way down to the metal. Hoping to get it back in a few weeks.

That's good to know. Thanks for the feedback.

I've used Ken's Custom Autobody in Yuba City and SS Thompson's in Sacramento both do a good job with paint. Ken's does excellent carbon fiber and fiberglass work. Ken's extended the fender wells on my carbon fiber C4 Corvette hood and you can't tell that the fenders were flared out. It looks like an original factory hood but, in carbon fiber.

Do they hit deadlines? Do you pay upfront or at the end ?

Deadlines! I have never heard of a body shop meeting deadlines but, I did pay at the end when the job was done.

where in SJ did you end up taking it to?

I know a family friend that opened his own paint shop after running one for years. they just did my floorpans and happy with how it came out.. he does a lot of lowrider paint jobs and will take my car to get painted EVENTUALLY. lol

but curious to see how the shop in SJ comes out

Car is still at the paint shop but with an end in sight. They are supposed to start painting tomorrow. I had them do some extra work while I was at it. Decided to fill the door and trunk locks and I'm going with an electric system.

Attached are a couple photos before they filled the locks. The car was fully primed and I was super happy with the lines. I've owned my camaro for over 18 years and the gaps have always been effed up.

I'll post done pics once I get it painted.

I received a private message asking for more details so I figured it'd share with the group.

frume's auto body off Stockton in San Jose. When I dropped the car off he said he wanted to get my car done in about 4 weeks which I knew was impossible. my car was buried under 4 different coats of paint and has fiberglass flares and a molded rear spoiler that were covered under layers of body filler. they've done a ton of work, took the car down to bare metal, lined up all the gaps, fixed the flares and spoiler with fiberglass, i also have a fiberglass lower front valence, welded up the door and trunk locks and hole where the antennae used to be and emblem holes, also one of the fenders needed some welding where it attached to the body behind the front wheel, and should finally be painting it today or tomorrow. it's been there for about 3.5 months.

he said he was priming the car in the best primer available and he's not actually supposed to use it due to government regulations but it's far superior than what's allowed. I'm painting it Daytona peal grey which is an oem audi r8 color. also laying down black racing stripes.

he's charging me $5,500 but considering all the work they have put in, I think that's a steal. I would normally be suspect of the shop and low costs but my neighbor has known the owner for years and he's painted two camaro's for him. I've seen the paint on one of the cars years after it was painted and it looks pristine.

I'll post up a few pics when it gets a coat of paint.

That's a smoking price. Did the price include materials or did you supply them? Any photos you can post from the begging to now?
How many times did he choose to prime and block before applying paint?
How was the payment arranged?

That's not bad time wise. Anything under 4-6 months would be a good number.

Price included primer, paint, fiberglass, etc.

I'll post a couple more pictures. One is from the day I dropped it off, couple after the paint was removed.

Probably primed at least twice and now they are finishing the wet sanding of the primer and I expect paint this weekend and next week.

I gave him $2,500 up front, another $1,500 this month and the remainder when complete.

Really happy with the gaps and body work. The drip rails were rusted out pretty good and look great now.

I'm planning on stopping by tomorrow and will take a few more pics and post up after.

Looks really nice. Can you take a photo looking down the side. Just want to see how straight it is. Was that a friend price or what they charge normally?

Here's a few pics that I had looking down the side.
Like I said, I was referred by my neighbor across the street. I've never met the guy but my neighbor may have put in a good word and asked that he take care of me.

My neighbor is taking his 67 RS/SS there as soon as my car gets out.

Looking good man!. looks like you got a good deal there! keep them pics coming!

So my friend Carlos@ No End Customs, does some good, clean work. Been tracking his work for a few years now. Takes about 3 - 4 months on average to get one out the door., does clean detailed work. He has a shop in Morgan Hill, He does paint work for Rich @ Road Touring Customs.
His pricing obviously depends on the work needed. but I'd say he averages from 8 - 11k.

I've had my run ins with bad shops, and or shops that take their sweet time to complete projects. haven't seen that out of him.
- not over 6 months anyway. (that's still not bad timing, imo).
He only works on custom projects.. no insurance stuff.
here's a link to contact him with.
