I have been looking for some new seats to put in my 1966 Chevelle for a while and I lucked out this morning at pick-a-part. I found a really nice set of seats out of a low mileage 1989 BMW 325i that have were covered with very thick seat covers that kept the vinyl in excellent condition.

$70 and about 40 minutes of wrenching later I got them out of the car and on the way home.

The only issues that the seats have is a small tear on the back of the passenger seat and a broken cable for the tilt forward handle on the passenger seat. Two German fellows that were removing the intake and PCM from the car for a 2002 project that they are fuel injecting told me that about 20 minutes before I came someone else had ripped the seat while they were removind the seat belt assembly.

Anyone happen to know of a good way that I could repair the bit of vinyl without re-covering the entire back of the seat?

I will try to get these installed next week and will post something on my website and in the interiors area here on pt.com.

This is a little ghetto but you could cut a ptch the shape of the tear and glue it on with
CA glue (crazy glue). Not perfect but better than the rip.

Pay an interior guy to sew a patch , do both seats so it looks like part of the design.

Cut a piece of aluminum and bend it to fit, paint it black and do both seats so it looks factory.

they also make vinyl repair kits but i have not tried them yet,

Your aluminum idea got me thinking, my stock seats have a "chrome" strip that is glued all the way around the seat shell, Maybe I could put something like that onto these seats. It might just cover the tear and it could make the seats look a bit more at home in the interior.

Anyone have experiance with the vinyl repair kits?

I think the aluminum idea is the best.. I have tried the "vinal repair kits" and they are "ok" but the results are not that good..

Oh, and cool seats, especially for that $$

I think that I may just head down there again today and see if I can find another seat back that is in good shape.
