I have a set of 4 Hurst Original Wheels, in the original Hurst Drums (2/drum) for sale. Each is stamped with their original serial number, and has been stored in my father garage for the past 50 years. I would like to know if anyone could tell me how to determine the year they were manufactured from the serials? I know they are the earlier years as they have the spokes with the squared edging.

They only produced the HURST wheels form 1965 to 1969. They made 28 variations of the same wheel, all being 14 X 6. They made with three different bolt patterns, 5 on 4 1/2", 5 on 4 3/4" and 5 on 5". There were thick shank, thin shank, webbed, non webbed, anodized spokes, polished spokes, aluminum trim rings, chrome trim rings, brushed trim rings, painted center sections matte finish, etc... You will find the manufacture date on the inner (under the mounted tire) section of the steel rim portion. There will be a letter with two digits such as "D66" (April of 66). The steel outer rim was an Oldsmobile station wagon wheel that was apparently a strong steel wheel made so they used that hoop then hot rivited the forged aluminum center sectin to it. The wheels were really heavy so they were never installed as a factory issue. The statement about the spokes with squared edging has nothing to do with their date of manufacture. The purchaser could order the wheels in multiple configurations (28) as far as I know. Retail store Sears also sold these wheels. If you are looking to sell the wheels, I may have interest, always liked them. If I can answer any additional questions for you please do so and I will help out in any way I can. PM me for quicker response in case I miss any future posting on your thread here. I sent you a PM with my contact information.
