View Full Version : Side view mirrors... Delete? Or keep? What do you think?

I've noticed that a good amount of pro touring cars have deleted the side view mirror(s).
I personally kinda like that cleaner look. I'm sure it can make driving more difficult haha at least maybe if your not used to it. I drove for 1 month with NO mirrors once. My fault and I was lazy haha fixed that... Sorta.... Anyways!
What at do you guys think when it comes to the styling of pro touring.
Delete side view mirrors? Or keep them?

In my state, side mounted rear view mirrors are required.

I've never noticed that. I think cars need effective side view mirrors to be safe on the street and the track.

I haven't noticed P-T cars really lacking them, I seem to notice quite a few actually, and some that don't mind spending $300+ on a custom one. I think the people that shave them lean a little more show-car. I think in P-T function is priority #1, and they do serve a function. Personally, I like the looks and better rearward visibility, and if the OE mirror to your car doesn't look nice, find one that does (the 68 Buick GS my dad and I finished uses a sleeker 70's Firebird chrome mirror).

I agree with that. I drive my car on the street and freeways all the time and I added a passenger side review mirror for safety. I like to know where the other cars are. The last thing I need is to get into a wreck with my vintage car.

I just drove across the country without a driver's side mirror and found it quite annoying. The head turn necessary to see around the El Camino blind spot was exhausting after 8 hours. But I've also driven without a passenger side mirror and didn't care, since I always double check with a head turn anyway.

No side mirrors is a bad idea!

I noticed quite awhile ago that on Over Hauling Chip didn't install them too much on his builds.
I feel he just liked the look .

Mine didn't come with one on the passenger side, and I wish it did.

Shaved mine at first and then added them back on last summer! What a pain finding the original location/holes etc. Keep them!

He doesn't do them for the initial build that you see televised. From what I've read, the car is kept by Foose and the team for a month afterwards where they can dial the car in, finish details, install mirrors, etc.

That makes sense.

Yea I guess I'm going mirrors. I will only be adding 1 though. True pro touring fashion is 2. Because it 100% makes the car more practical. As a middle ground for my liking of shaved mirrors, I'm going old school like my 68 mustang and just having a drivers side mirror and rear view of course.
That way from 1 angle it will have that clean shaved look (I'm tucking the bumpers and shaving the handles), but it will still be driveable.

Having only the driver side mirror is good right up to the point you go to change lanes to the right and sideswipe the car next to you cause it was in your blind spot. IMO, side mirrors are an important safety item and safety takes priority over style.

I hear that. My GTO only has a driver side mirror and its annoying. I'm constantly looking over my right shoulder before changing lanes and the roofline leaves a pretty big blind spot. Eliminating your side mirrors for a car that sees any street time is just foolish and dangerous IMO

I think the passenger's mirror is almost more important than the driver's side, I usually have a decent idea of what's going on just outside my window. Besides, with one mirror my OCD kicks in and I can't stand having something asymmetric, haha.
