A few asked for pictures underneath. You can see the fuel tank is not tight yet in this pic but I wanted to get something on for you guys. I think this is a good leason in exhaust routing for some, no draging issues here.

I love that smooth bottom :smoke: What gauge metal did you use on the floors?
ProdigyCustoms
10-21-2005, 05:07 PM
It is all 16 and 18 gauge sheet and .125 wall tubing
man, thats some good ground clearance! Who did all the welding? I thought the floors were sandblasted, why undercoating not body color?(well i guess it is black :)? You should later after sema do a diffuser in the rear or whatever they call it, like on Chicayne to match teh floor pan

Yody, I did not expect you to respond positive, I am not sure weather this response was positive or not, to anything I posted after your bitching about me and others in the chat room last night. Even though others requested pics, I really had second thoughts about posting at all based on the things you said last night, then I said screw it, and posted anyway.
Michael did all the welding on the car
hmmm, sorry you feel that way. Would you rather me respond negatively? If you didn't hear it from horses mouth then I wouldn't take hearsay too seriously. So, still wondering about the undercoating? what made you go that way instead of body color/ or semi black?

Frank,
What kind of undercoating is that? it really has a nice texture to it. I didnt even notice the tank until now. The black tank looks killer

looks pretty good.
Do the pipes go over the gas tank or through it? LOL! (thats the way the pic looks)

The undercoat is Wurth SKS, it is there for noise reduction and a durable surface, we use it on almost everything we do. The fuel tank is something Ricks and I designed, it is not black that is a bad picture, it is stainless and it does look like the exhaust runs through the tank. The pipes run near the trunk floor, and the tank has cut outs to go around them. It is a real work of art and really adds to the nice packaging. Rick's Hot Rod Shop is the best.

At the risk of being labeled a *********, Nice job Guys.
I know it has been a challenge to get it done in time, and my hat is off for the level of detail at this late date.
Now, get back to work, SEMA is tommorrow.

How do you like the sound with the chambered pipes. I had looked into them as they make them is so many sizes and it is easier package to get into tight spots.
Does floor have any beads for strength? I guess the above comments Were they were looking for ISCA show car. Nice detailed driver. I use the same undercoat and it always looks good, doesn't rust, and doesn't sound like you are in a tin can while driving.
I always say; "Never listen to anybody's comments unless they are willing to put their work up against what they are commenting on" Easy to be critic , harder to actually finish a car.
Good luck at SEMA.

Brian, the chambered is loud, real loud. It sound like a Cobra on steriods. The seller said we needed 3' of pipe per side to get to a legal limit, We have 4' per side and it is LOUD! A little might be the beast in front of the pipes, a lot of inches and 11:1 compression. It will be fun for a while, We will be putting silencers on it for around town cruising.
Ironically, the SKS was for noise reduction, LOL!
The floor is braced and does not have ribs. The sections are relitively small and done in 16 gauge, so they are very strong anyway. It has a perimeter and inner chassis, so the floor really only keep your feet off the pavment.

I'd say that about sums it up. Obviously, these pix show the car before it has been completed and detailed for SEMA. There should be a sign stating: Under Construction: Please Excuse Our Appearance" Parts are hanging off of it, body shop dust coats every surface and nook. And the inevitable blemishes caused during assembly have yet to be touched up. There is no sense judging or questioning the build until the car is shown complete and the engineering is explained in full.
These "Before" pix are a nice contrast to the "Under Construction" pix shown above.

Nice job Frank.. painted undercarriges are nice if you are never going to drive the car.. I prefer the coated approach since A. It looks clean and B. It is function over form (ie. its is functional more than asthetic)..
I will be doing the same type of coating under Penny.. Although yours kicks far more booty than mine..
You should have named your project "Lazuras" (sp?) since it was brought back from the dead..
looks great! since we seem to be harping on undercoating couldnt you have painted over the undercoating or would the paint still be prone to chipping? personally I dont care that its undercoated, i think the car looks great period. function over form anyday. besides the form will be there if the function is the priority. kinda like any car looks good so long as its fast.
on the gas tank, was it worth it volume wise to have the tank notched to clear the exhaust? why not just use a smaller tank or would that have been too easy and normal?
again great work and I want to see pictures in the magazines when its debuted

The tank was something Rick really wanted to do to show his abilities. And his abilities are incredible. We gained a few gallons of capacity making it still 18 gallons, which with a monster motor, we will need just to make it to the next fuel station.
We leave Friday on a 3 day trip. It will be a bit rough on the first leg. Because of all the destruction in Mississippi and Louisiana, there are no hotel rooms until somewhere a couple hundred miles west of Houston, which is about 1200 to 1300 miles for us. After that it will be a couple 600 mile days putting us in Vegas Sunday, to put the car in the show Sunday afternoon. We do plan to play with the car a bit. We have a couple racer friends that will drive it. We will take the car to Valley of Fire for photos and some hell raising after the show, and probably get some PICS around the casinos and the strip. We have parties and or dinners every night with sponsors and or business contacts, so we will not be able to play much before or during the show, so we will be staying a few days after the show to enjoy Las Vegas, play some poker tourneys, gamble, party and see some shows, etc. Then we will take the long way home and visit some members, friends, and business along the way.

Andrew, you can do it on jack stands, that is what we did.
I would think Rick could make a tank and have the exhaust come through a tunnel if you wanted it. Ours is really killer. I was under it today jhooking uo the tank just saying WOW!

If you plan on driving that car on something like Power Tour, I would highly recommend avoiding running the exhaust thru or near the fuel tank. We had quite a few cars overheat during those long traffic periods in 95F temps, due to boiling the fuel in the tank and causing the pumps to burn up. That fiberglass Year One Nova (the gold one) went thru 3 fuel pumps that trip, due to the exhaust running too close to the pump and tank, and us getting stuck in traffic.
Frank, the roads thru FL to TX are wide open. I made the trip from Houston to Mobile, AL twice in the last three weeks. There are hotels in Mobile, as well as Baton Rouge, and Lafayette LA. East TX (Beaumont) and West LA (Lake Charles) are still screwed up though, but Houston should also have plenty of hotels by Friday. Even if the Astros manage to win the next three in a row in Houston, they fly out Friday back to Chicago, so hotels will be empty again.

Diesel is fine here in OK except for price. $2.09 for gas, 3.09 for diesel. Let me know when you are comin thru OKC coming or going. I would love to see the GTO done.

I dont think there are very many people in here that saw how bad this car was. I believe this is the car that he posted pics of in a thread of "inspiration" and it was barely a car once all the old bad metal was removed.
Absolutely awesome job Frank. Prodigy has come a long way. And I thought our 67 mustang was in bad shape! '
I really wish I could hear how those exhaust pipes sounded. If I run my full exhaust and its not loud enough then I will need louder mufflers (currently flowmaster 40 series) and I might consider going the same route as you. The exhaust is what I am currently on and I hope it will be loud enough with full exhaust out the back.
Do you have a heat shield where the exhaust notches are? Just wondering.
Damn that thing is a beautiful work of engineering! :seizure:

Thanks Mike, that is cheap, it is $3.13 here. I will probably be thru there sometime Friday, pm me your cell again, and I will call on the way thru, traffic sucks there anyway and we will be taking the south bypass.

I do not advise making a tank that the Exhaust runs through. However we can make a tank that goes around the exhaust aslong as it’s not completely surrounded. Also when sitting in a stagnant environment such as traffic for a long period of time in hot 90+ weather you might want to run a speed controller for the fuel pump. On the year One car if my memory serves me correctly it has a poly cell in it with an external fuel pump. Having the pump mounted in the tank helps cool it and can minimize premature death to the pump.
Damn True
10-25-2005, 01:05 PM
Frank,
Dunno how familiar you are with Southern Nevada, but I highly recomend you take the car out I-15 until you get to St. George Utah. You will find along the way one of the most beautiful canyon drives in America. The car would look great against the red rock, and Im sure the sound of the exhaust off the canyon walls will be spectacular.
Either that or take it out to the road course at the track in Vegas and wring the crap out of that thing!
