Hello everybody. I just picked up the car I've wanted since before I could drive, only it doesn't quite mirror the image in my head haha. So I'm gonna be documenting the process to get it there. A little background, I bought a fox mustang years ago as my first project since I couldn't afford a fastback. It went through major changes, including a self fabricated turbo kit and my own tuning. I am 302f150 on corral and theturboforums, that build is here: http://www.theturboforums.com/threads/351343-1992-Mustang-GT-DIY-HX40w-build(DYNO-results-in!!!!!)

I'm recently out of college(again), and finally had some free cash to throw around. I kept an eye out for a while, went to see a car, and a few days later came home with this:

The vin starts with 9T02L, so it was originally an inline 6, it was an auto and from what I can tell it sat from 1991 until now. My goal first is to get it stripped, fix the rust, and do some light suspension work for handling's sake, to get it into cruising condition. It currently has a late model 302 and a t5 which will suffice for now. Long term goal is full suspension for corner carving, and either a Windsor with fuel injection or possibly a coyote build. I have next to no body work experience so I hope I can learn fairly quickly to get this car looking great again. I will probably sub out the paint job because I really want this car looking great.

Youtube Video Build Log (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDqckzyUuApOr9xZk88I3HBIYZrJkgJAz)

Goals:
-Acquire fastback Done!
-Get titled Done!
-Strip car
-Replace necessary sheet metal
-Replace mechanical components
-Get Painted
-Drive!

UPDATE: Well, fast forward 2 years... life happens but I'm starting in earnest finally. After tearing into the car more, three of the four subframe rails are rusted through, one has some diamond plate steel welded in place so it's all gotta go. I had hoped to get the car running and driving in some form while I saved up cash, but that didn't happen. I have no desire to restore it back to stock so I'm going tube frame chassis. Hope to update once every couple weeks or so but we shall see how it goes.

I saved up and built a nice 720sq. ft. garage to build the car in. Spent the whole summer working on it and getting wiring done. Got it finished, mounted a window AC unit to fully spoil myself. Build thread for that over on garagejournal: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=362727

Congrats man, a fine choice.

Sounds like a good car to start with, and some good plans for it.

I decided to start a video build log, never done one before so we shall see how it turns out. Videos are uploaded, added the link to the playlist in the original post. Feel free to comment or give opinions, this is my first major restoration so I'm open to suggestions/advice.

Worked a few hours today, got the 302 and t5 pulled out. Gotta run to the local steel supplier to get some materials to make a jig. Updated the original post to fix broken picture links. More to come!

Spent a few more hours today on the car. Got the trim off the windows, all the interior panels pulled out, headliner ripped out. Got another video update on youtube: https://youtu.be/1E54Gm3f3os

Hey all, progress isn't dead but it's been slow. Hurricane Irma knocked out my house AC and fence, so my fun budget has been basically zero. I've been working on side projects in the mean time. I found a 3/4hp 12 speed bench top
drill press on craigslist for a good deal, and then decided to make a cart for it instead of it taking up work space. My main motivation for this was to get some experience welding/squaring up steel tubing, but it's also convenient to be able to move the drill press easily if I'm drilling holes in long pieces. I made some screw jacks out of pipe and 3/4" threaded rod for my bandsaw to help support the long pieces when I'm cutting. I also picked up some steel to do a welding table, instead of doing the large flat plate top I figure I'll try the tubing top style. It's easier to get more stiffness for the top, and provides lots of clamping positions, plus cheaper and easier to handle. Not quite done with it but I designed it in CAD just to play around, picked up all the steel, have everything cut and the top section welded up. I attached the PDF plans if anyone wants to make one and not worry about drawing the measurements.
