I thought I would start a thread on a project we have been working on. It came to us as a 63 Chevy C10 that was going to be "just a cruiser". But after the other cars that we built for Todd, he decided it just didn't match the fleet. So he let us get a little more aggressive with it. Now it has evolved into something a little more acceptable to the Pro-Touring circuit of cars and trucks. The plan with this truck is to make something that is fairly competitive on the autocross course and still comfortable enough to drive down the interstate with the A/C blowing. I started with the chassis, the frame got removed and built a full tube chassis. We normally do everything in chromoly, but opted to keep the main frame in mild steel on this one. There will be a roll cage in it as well, but that will be done in chromoly. I decided to use C6 suspension components with some minor tweaks for the road course. However since the truck has evolved a little further, I am going to swap out the stock components with bearings instead of bushings. The chassis is built in a manor so that nothing will hang below the frame rails and it will be fitted with a carbon belly pan as well. The brakes in the pics are for mock up only, we will be using the 6 piston ZO6 calipers and 2 piece rotors on all four corners. Opted to go with Forgeline 19x12 wheels and Toyo 345 tires on the back with 325 on the front. All the frame components, brackets and custom parts were made in house. There was a lot of thought and work put into getting the weight balance better on the truck. Obviously the C6 trans in the back helps a bunch. It was initially set up with a automatic 6 speed, but we have decided to swap for the manual now that it has progressed into a little more track worthy. Extensive amounts of body work and lightening in certain areas has helped me get our weight both down and balanced much better. Even the A/C components will be located behind the seats instead of under the dash. A fair amount of custom carbon fiber will also be used to help with weight savings. The body has a ton of modifications done to it. Although it is very custom, it is still important to me that it retains the look and lines of a 63 C10. I am just an old metal guy and car builder so please excuse my poor rendering of what I am building. I am wanting to start working with one of the pros on doing some renderings. I just struggle with putting into words what I am seeing in my head. I respect everyone's opinions on here so please feel free to give me your input, both positive and negative. If you guys are interested I will try to keep posting up some updates on this build. I was originally hoping to debut this truck this year at SEMA, but unfortunately we are just too busy with too many projects for that to happen. It should be out by the 2016 season. Sorry for the long intro, I hope you guys enjoy the build.

Thanks,
Scott

Thank you! Haha! You must know Mike. :)

We are bringing one of the blue ones back in soon to finish up. It is at the shop up the road getting mechanical stuff done right now.

Well you are practically right down the street. I'm on the south side of Hillsboro, almost DeSoto.

I'm at '30' and 'MM' near the place called "Driven" that sells all the wicked pro-touring cars (I have to slow down when I drive by), if you know where that's at.
I'd love to volunteer to help you just to be part of such a cool vehicle project, but I've got a full "honey-do list" generally.
Nice truck man. I'm envious.

Nice hi-end build. I like that year body-style. Like the "squarish" tire and wheel setup.

This pic of your frame fixture:

Reminds me of the alignment stands I built for my truck (the jackstands are not bearing weight and are just there for safety):

Dr G those are some cool alignment stands! I love seeing the different things people come up with. Thanks for sharing.

I understand!! Thanks. I have a seven man crew here, but I think we could keep double that busy! We are always searching for talented employees.

I have been by that Driven before, they do some pretty cool stuff over there! We do a lot of pro touring cars and trucks. I just don't post much. Unfortunately I am not very good about updating my website and I don't know how to post pics on here accept for copying them from my website.

Sounds like you need a good website designer and photographer!
As far as posting pics here, since they're already uploaded to your site, it's probably easiest just to grab them from there and bring them here like you're doing.
Otherwise you'd be uploading them twice.

I spent the first half of my career turning wrenches. Now I'm a service writer at a dealership. Not sure my body would enjoy working eight hours anymore. ha ha
But my brain would sure love working at a pro-touring shop.

So very true! I am looking to hire a new parts guy. One of the applicants is also good with web design and marketing. Those talents are putting him on top of the list right now. Way too many things to do around here, that's for sure!
