I've been working on my Vintage Air today and I'm stumped. I've even called VA and we've not been able to figure it out. Here goes.

I was driving my Camaro yesterday, thought my AC was on because the blower was working. Not cool but blowing air. After a few minutes it quit blowing at all. I turned everything off and went back home. I let it sit over night and started in this morning to find out what could be wrong. Here's what I've done so far..

I could hear what sounded like a relay kicking out. finally found out which one it was, wires were getting really warm, and it would kick the relay out. When it did the fan motor would stop working. I pulled the relay from the harness and everything would work fine, except the compressor wouldn't work of course. I could plug the relay back in, same problem. So I started working backwards from the compressor, unplugged the compressor, still a problem, unplugged the limit switch, same problem, I'm really at a loss as to where to go next. I've got 68 miles on this car so I don't think its a compressor problem. I called VA and he had me make sure the red wire went straight to the battery, it does, and the two white wires go straight to the negative battery.
Does any one have any ideas?

Hi Carl,

Can you tell us more about the relay? Which relay?

Hey John,
It is the compressor relay. I think I've found the problem though. I unhooked everything, the compressor, limit switch, even the compressor relay. I then ohm'd the blue wire coming from the relay to the limit switch, it showed to have a dead short. To be sure I had a jumper wire that I hooked to the positive post and touched it to the spade terminal of the blue wire. Yep, sparks did fly. Not bad I just skimmed it across it. I got to looking and at some time Pulling the battery and putting it back in countless times the blue wire was now between the battery box (metal) and battery. Dead ground. I then pulled the wire up away from anything metal and hooked everything back up and things are working right for now. I'm going to continue putting thing's back together and check it out. Even the compressor clutch is pulling in now. I think I've got it, if so, I will come back and tell everyone. At least it might be good in the archives if someone else has a similar problem. I do thank you for your response. I'll let you know.

So far this seems to have worked. I did notice that when the compressor clutch kicks in the belt slips. Im going to check belt tension tomorrow. I hope thats all that's wrong.
