Hi, I recently took my 68 rs/ss off the road to install my new driveline, do dse deep tubes and put in all new suspension. It was a beautiful car, but one thing leads to another and I decided to do a colour change while the car is off the road. I love the style of TheJDMan's camaro and thought about a lighter shade of gunmetal than the car currently is with a black bumble bee stripe, just keeping all the moldings etc. so the car looked factory with the lowered stance and nice wheels. Here lies the problem, I have the rs lower beltline molding and I am not sure that I like it, it seems to look good on some cars and others not so good, could be the angle you look at it from makes the way the molding drops down on the rear quarter panel more apparent. Interested in your thoughts, keep the factory look ? or get rid of them and some of the other bright work and go with a stripped down basic mono tone paint look that also looks great? Cheers.

Personally I'm not a fan of the beltline molding on pretty much anything, I think it's unnecessary and clutters up the look. I'd vote for deleting it and going with the simple paintjob you mentioned. Since the molding wasn't on every car I think you can easily remove it without upsetting the factory appearance.

Everyone has different tastes, I don't think you're going to get a more clear answer on this other than people with their own opinions.

Me, I don't like shaving a lot of the factory trim. I think it loses a lot of the detail that it came with, and makes me think of a muscle car era version of Boyd's Easter Egg cars like his roadsters, without any trim at all.

I'd rather play around with finishes instead of delete it. Like on a lighter gunmetal, either a black or maybe a brushed nickel would look slick.

Yeah Josh, we all have different tastes, I had thought of blacking some trim out but visualized it and rejected that, however I had given thought to perhaps running a scotch brite pad over the moldings to give them a matte finish, that appeals to me. I might contact a plateing works first and see what they have. I could have the look but make the trim less obvious. I do like some of the dechromed cars, some colours seem to work far better than others but and a lot of the time are far more custom with regard to interiors etc. Cheers

Everyone has their opinion of style. With Dust Off my plan from the get go was to keep the body as stock as possible while upgrading the drive train and running gear. I happen to like the stock badging, bumpers and stripes and if I were to repaint it would be the exact same color. After all I have owned the car for 42 years and anything else just would not feel right. But the next guy likes his badges all removed, bumpers blended and the billet parts and pieces and that's cool. The beauty of this hobby is that there is no wrong style. The thing about the RS lower side molding is that it enhances the coke bottle shape as opposed to the straight molding I have. I'm flattered you like my car and if you keep your body trim stock I completely get it, but whatever you decide, build what makes YOU happy.
