Hey everyone, I ran across this site searching for brake info and ended up reading on here for hours. Seems like a great forum with lots of good tech and nice people.
Ihave a 68 gmc that I got as my first car at 15. I'm 34 now.
I drove it for about 6 months with its pretty pink salmon paint , straight six, 3 in the tree, manual steering, manual brakes, and non snycronized first gear lol. Quite a handfull for a new driver. But I loved it! Father and son project we put a 350/350 combo in it and I drove it like that for another year.
I pulled the engine for another car that never got done and let it sit a while. I decided I wanted to prostreet it after talking with a coworker at the body shop I worked at and started in on that project. Ended up being a looooooooong one. Off and on for about 10 years. Finally made a big push on it and finished it a few years ago. Had tons of fun building it and absolutely no fun driving it haha! Put about 500 miles on it in 2 years.
Dad and I went to the columbus goodguys show last year and watched the autocross. It was like a light bulb going off. THIS is what I want!
So I set out to make it more usable/drivable/fun. Put a smaller cam in the engine. Got some 20" rocket booster wheels and stuck a independent rearend under it with 4 wheel disc out of a 03 cobra. Might change engine later but just working on getting the rest of it all sorted out for now. Went for a quick test drive the other day and went 14 miles before I realized it! Meant to just go down the steet and back. So much better like this. Its fun again! Hopefully I can get it done enough to take to goodguys this year and beat on it in the autox that inspired the change.
