View Full Version : Worked on 3Deep model

Even though I still hope it handles well, I can't call this thing a Pro-Touring Trike anymore. It's really a three-wheeled chopper; and to me a chopper is a two-wheeled street rod. Therefore 3Deep and I are relegated to the Outhouse :)

Anyway, I finally did some more work on the model, and plan to get started on actually building this thing real soon. I am planning to pick up some sponsors now, because (as usual for me) the plan has evolved into more than I have time to do by myself.

Those things scare me, I don't know why. I've cycles a fair bit, but these allways creep me out. I think I might get TO comfortable(forget its a cycle) and that I'd flip it over on myself if I got on it to hard?

I smell a wheelie machine!! Very cool.

Thanks. Wheelies shouldn't be too much of a problem. To keep things from getting too far out of hand though, my plan is to put the torque up high in the curve. I think an even bigger thrill will be hearing the engine shriek to a 9K redline! If I can get the balance right it will still wheelie if you snatch a big handful, but will otherwise it'll keep the front wheel down. These plans are for when I finally get around to building an Ecotec for it. For now it will have the gutless wonder from the Cavalier. It MIGHT have enough torque to lift the front wheel, if I try really hard. Ever climb a steep grade with a mid-eighties J-body, with the 2.0L four and slushbox transaxle?

well if you need rear rims, I have 2 Billet Specialties Machette rims (old line) for cheap. They are 5 on 5 for a chevy...

Thanks jy, I will be running a smaller bolt pattern circle though. That and I want to buy from a company that makes a matching motorcycle front wheel. I would like to have a set of custom billet wheels cut, but that's way over budget :seizure:

have you ever seen the video and pics of the LS1 powered trike. i think it was an aussie contraption. it was pretty sweet!!!

Hmmm, I haven't seen that one; sounds interesting though. I'll have to see if I can Google it. I have been struggling, off and on, with the V8 issue. On one hand, the right V8 would lend a lot of "cool factor" to the trike. On the other hand, it would really upset the balance and further exaggerate the tendency to wheelie.

WOW! Thanks, I gotta follow that one. I actually like his radical bodywork, but I would have to let the world know what was between my legs.

Picked up the first sponsor Friday - chassis builder. I have also started the third round of modeling to get the design ready to build. The latest design is a bit more radical.

I am really wrestling with myself over this V8 issue now. In addition to the impact of seeing it on a trike, the thought of hearing it barking through dual Flowmasters is really hard to get away from.

Couple dozen more sponsors and I'll be riding next summer :)

GM is using an all aluminum 5.3 (L33) in a few of their trucks. They probably are not as easy to find as an LS1/6/2, but do you really need all that power in a trike? :seizure: If you wanted something smaller you could always swap the crank and rods from a 4.8 into into the L33 block. Of course, there are always the North Star engines.

The ultimate V8 motor would be the 5300 LS motor that's in the new Grand Prix and Impala. Special aluminum block with the correct bell pattern to mate up to the current tranverse transaxles. Unless I can pick up GM Performance Parts as a sponsor, I don't think it's going to fit in my budget though. I would probably need a few complementary aftermarket sponsors (ECU, etc.) to make it work outside its designated environment as well. Northstar is not a bad choice but I it would also cost a nice chunk of change to do properly.

You're right, I don't need (and really don't want) typical V8 power in this trike. If I do it I will try to push the curve up as much as possible. I think it would suck riding something that wants to wheelie every time you twist the grip.

I may just stick with the inline four and think about building a second V8 model for show later. I want to rack up some miles on this one.

That was a link to a 69 Camaro, but curiousity about the "2010 Vette" helped me find the right thread.

I agree with your POV on the look completely.
