Is there anyone out there that has figured out the biggest wheel & tire combo that can be put on a 1971 Chevelle SS 454? I think that the below will work with out any modifications to frame, etc.
Front = 18 x 8 rims with 4 1/2"back space & 255 / 40 R18 99Y XL BSW tires.
Rear = 20 x 10 rims with 5 1/2" back space & 295 / 40 R20 106Y BSM MB tires.
If you have any input please let me know.
Thanks,
Chet

Chet,

You have a 27" tire in the front and a 29" tire in the rear, in my opinion that might look odd. Depending on how low you have the rear the 29" tall tire might be problematic...

9" front - 5.5" bs, 275 wide tire
10" rear - 6.00 bs 305 wide tire

Widest I've seen...

I'm not sure what 5.5"bs & 6.00bs means?

The wheel sizes you have listed are very common for wheels in those widths and diameters fit A-Bodies very well. Other than the ascetics, I'm not sure if the 2" difference in rear wheel diameter will mean anything.

For reference, here is my friends '68 with the same setup He has since gone to 19"/20"

Chet, your BS is definitely in the ball park. I too would recommend looking into the tire options. A 1 inch stagger would probably be ok but 2 inches could an issue. Try giving Tony G with ABC Performance a call. Chevelle's are his specialty
