Here are a couple pics of my 73 Camaro. Theres a lot of DSE components as well as quite a bit of custom fab. I originally had a plan and budget for the car, but that quickly went right out the window. The plan is to run a sleeved LS2 with LS7 heads and cam worked by Advanced Induction. ARE Dry Sump with a 3 stage scavenge using the internal pump as supply. DSE front Sub and custom 3 link rear using DSE control arms. Forgeline wheels 345s in back and 275s upfront. When I started this project no one was really running tires bigger than 275s in the front, now I see a lot of folks working the front fenders to fit big wheels on the front. I have some really nice parts for the car and once it's done, it should be a nice ride. I plan on beating the hell out of this thing when I get it going, it's not a show car and I have now intentions to treat it as such. Lol.

I actually had a thread started here on this project awhile back and decided to take it down and reset. Previous thread was kind of all over the place so for this one, I,m going to try to stick to the area I,m working and finish before posting something else. I'm sure I'm not the only one in that boat. I guess a good place to start is with the oiling system. I wanted a dry sump setup from the start, but quickly found that once you deviate from the stock LS7 setup you find yourself in no mans land. I had a hard time getting info on what would work with my setup. I'm running a DSE front subframe and by design, a lot of stuff is moved around and it seemed that most of the Dry Sump manufactures like to mount their pumps down low where the stock AC is mounted. That wasn't going to work with the DSE frame, at least not with a 3 stage pump and their off the shelf mounting brackets. I ended up going with an ARE 3 stage scavenge pump using the internal as the supply. ARE makes a really nice pump the bolts directly to the LS block, but just took up too much real estate on the DSE frame. I think it actually would have fit nicely on a stock frame. I talked to Gary at ARE many times and was surprised that he wasn't that familiar with the DSE stuff. Solution to the problem, make a custom mounting bracket for the pump. I plan on using a ARE drive mandrel on the hub to spin the pump. I think it should work out ok. Second major issue was the oil pan. Interference with the supply inlet on the sub frame. Had to do some cutting and welding to get it to work. I was a bit nervous cutting and welding on a brand new @800.00 ARE oil pan, the castings are actually pretty clean, it welded ok.

The hose is just for mock up purposes, once I get everything mounted I'll take the hose measure and send the fittings back to BMRS so they can make up the oil lines

One thing I really wanted to do with the car is keep things clean as far as where lines are ran and mounted. My tank is mounted in the rear of the car ( if I had it to do over again I would have mounted it the front, but it is what it is) so I needed to get a supply line, return line, and vent line to the tank. I didn't want the lines hanging under the car, not only for cosmetic reasons, but I didn't want a bunch of exposed oil lines under the car. Through the rocker panel they went. I'm sure someone has done it, but I've never seen it. Probably because most people are smart and mount the cans up front. Anyways, it actually wasn't all that bad running the lines through. Had to cut some of the door jam area out and re weld it in order to get the rocker around the tube, but that was about the most difficult part.

Mounting the lines took some effort making sure they were clear of moving of moving parts and things that get hot. Routing is a little unconventional, but was done to allow gravity to ensure oil was always at the pump. I didn't want any oil traps so ensured that the tank heights compared to oil pump inlet were in sync. The lines are temporary. Once I get everything plumbed, I will take measurements and send the fittings back to BMRS so they can make the lines. I used the Fab boss from IIMuch. I love these things and have used them all over the car. Over the years I've got to know these guys and John has really helped me out on a lot of stuff. They make some good products. I used fab boss to mount my vintage air evap, I'll get pictures up.

How long have you been working on the car?

I've had the car for about 5 years. I haven't been able to work on it as much as I'd like. I've also wasted a lot of time changing stuff. Seems like when projects take this long then some of the work you do at the beginning of the project becomes somewhat outdated. If that makes any sense.

I completly understand, my car started out mostly as a restoration with a few speed parts. Our tastes, wants, and knowledge change and then so do our cars. Usually for the better though. Car looks great, keep the pictures and progress coming.
