My neighbor two doors down has a 1981 Porsche 911 Targa convertable that he drives once in a great while. He dug it out of his garage this past week and attempted to start it but of course the battery was completely dead. The car is really not in bad overall condition it just needs lots of TLC, no rust, needs new tires, a clutch and of course the battery. We installed a new battery and it started right up. After checking things over we took it for a short drive. Tires are out of round big time and dry rotted but hold air and as long as you are not too aggressive with the throttle the clutch does not slip and the steering column is loose at the dash. During the test drive he mentions he is thinking of selling the car. Now I was not in the market for a Porsche until that moment. A new set of wheels and tires, a little time spent polishing the paint, some minor interior parts, a new clutch, a tune up, new brake pads and this would make a very nice weekend driver. The question is I have no idea what one of these cars is worth and I'm wondering if anyone here knows where I can look to find fair market values for this car? KBB.com only goes back to 92. I am continuing to search the internet but if anyone has a good source of Porsche values I would appreciate the info.

No idea, but I like the Outlaw wheels Magnus Walker designed if you score it. I use ebay as a gauge sometimes.

Look up your local Porsche Club of America chapter. Its a large community and there is undoubtedly a collector that is very dialed into the market locally that can help you. www.PCA.org

Steve, I've been in the Porsche Club of America for like 25 Years and have owned way too many P-Cars.

SC's are Nice cars, the one issues is pulled Head Studs. Targas are worth less than Coupes (a Convertible was not available til '83.) The recent (2-3 Years of 911 Frenzy has led to every 911 going up in price. You can pm me with his asking price and I can tell you if it is within reason.
