I'm wondering without seeing it what could be causing it? The car sitting on the ground is fine, but the front clip seems to sag when I lift it and since I'm lifting it by the frame, I'm wondering why the body seems to be sagging (front clip). Any quick comments based on known weaknesses or other of the Chevelle?

Not really uncommon, just the weakness of some full frame cars. I've had some cars, my 58 Edsel for example, where if I lift it from the side behind the engine, you can't open the door anymore, the frame bends so much.
On the opposite end, I was able to jack up my 98 T/A from one corner, and have the other wheel on the same side lift up off the ground... while still having the doors shut perfectly.
