View Full Version : Need Help w Rest of Brake Setup (MC, Proportioning Valve, etc)- Z51 Fronts/LS1 Rears

I am piecing together my brakes on a bit of a budget, and will be staying w/ manual. So far I have got the below parts incoming:

Z51 Front Calipers/Mounts w/ Hawk pads
LS1 4th Gen rear setup
Brakemotive rotors front/rear
Braided line from Kore 3.

I have the stock disc/drum setup in a 72 Camaro now, pic shown. I spoke w/ Tobin a bit and he indicated a late 70's Malibu MC at 15/16ths would work, or a Monza at 7/8's, but I have a few more questions, like are both equally plug and play w/ my lines?

Other question is should I be removing the entire stock proportioning valve and use something like this? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wil-260-11179?seid=srese1&gclid=COOR5JL63cMCFYREaQodvo0AyQ

If so what will I need line wise to connect? Any alternatives that can use existing lines in the car?

I'm new to doing any brake work on a car rather than bike, so forgive if I've stated anything dumb. I've been searching for weeks and have seen MC info that confirms the Malibu part, but am lost on the rest I think still.

Last, anyone have a link to a good thread on repositioning rear shocks on a 2nd gen to fit ls1 brakes?

Thanks in advance.https://www.pro-touring.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112349&stc=1

Nothing? Can anyone confirm that proportioning valve will replace the stick block?

I can confirm that while the Wilwood #260-11179 distribution block with built-in adjustable proportioning valve can certainly be used to replace the stock distribution block, however the line and fitting sizes are not the same. You may have noticed that the Wilwood block is ported for 3/8-24 inverted flare fittings at every port, whereas your OE block has various different sized ports. If your plan is to fabricate new hard lines yourself to replace what's there now, then you can do whatever you like. If your goal is to reuse the existing hard lines, then you may want to consider using an OE-style disc/disc combination valve like the unit linked to here (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rsd-pv72/overview/).

FWIW, the existing MC lines do not look stock to me...they look like a hot mess.

Thanks Tobin. Yeah, it looks like a rather tangled mess. However, does the distribution block at least look stock to you so the fittings on the lines would be the same size as stock? That would make the brass one you linked then much easier of course. Otherwise I'm in for a world of hurt trying to figure out what's in there and adapting something...or starting over (not something I'm interested in).

If you do some of your own brake lines I highly recommend using the Cunifer (http://www.cunifer.com/) line from Fedhill. It's much easier to work with than regular steel or stainless.

Thanks... hoping to not have to though. Ordered a late 70s Malibu dorman reman mc and will try the distribution block linked by Tobin. Hoping that will make for plug and play.
