Right now i'm looking to buy an older GM car to turn into a pro touring car as budget allows. I have found a clean 72' SS camaro 4spd with a 454 swapped but other than that is stock. And a clean local 66 chevy II with freshly built 406ci SBC, Built powerglide, Modified 10 bolt, already lowered properly with swaybars F&R and full CPP front end with coilovers, disck brakes F&R. Both cars would need minor rust repair in the quarters and paint job eventually but some of my good friends are painters so not a problem there. My plans are to slowly build it out to a killer street driver and swapping in a LS/6spd combo down the road.

So what I'm asking is what is a better platform for a having a great driving car you can really push if done right? I know the Chevy II has a head start with it's parts list, but I want to make the right decision. I love both body styles so looks aren't my problem here. My friend and I are doing a LS1/T56 swap into his 63' Chevy II so I can throw in his T10 if I want a 4spd.

This is a tough decision, both are great cars. I like the looks of both of them too!

Price and condition would be a factor for me. Sounds like the Nova already has a head start on some of the parts. I think the Camaro has more aftermarket support for modifications.

Personally I would prefer a car that is more stock, in which case that will be the Camaro. I also think the 2nd gen F-body platform has more potential.

Like the 2nd gens!

If the work you describe on the Nova was done properly I would go with it. Should be a bit lighter than the 2nd gen and already having quality parts installed will save time and money down the road.

Nova. Camaros are over rated
