View Full Version : need some diesel truck help/advice
I have been giving advice on this forum for years...and now I need some tech help...I was driving a 2011 chevy diesel big boy 6.6 HD ....and it just quit running...it was running awesome before it happened...it simply messaged on the information center that it had reduced speed and then as I pulled the truck off the road it turned itself off....it turns over but dosnt start...its a modified SEMA build from a few years back so it hasn't had smog on it and the need for exhaust fliud was also removed and has been like that for many years of great service .....i dont need any supposition just facts from any who have experience.

Wish I could help Rodney, is this still an issue? Hopefully you've found a cure by now.

Rod,
I can't tell you anything for certain without the error codes. But one of the most common problems with the Duramax trucks has to do with the fuel system sucking air and/or plugged fuel filter. There should be a primer button on top of the fuel filter housing, loosen the bleed screw and try pumping the primer till it gets firm and fuel flows out the bleeder then close the bleeder and see if it will start. Beyond that it could be any number of things. Pull the code/s then go to http://www.dieselplace.com/ those guys are very good at deciphering codes and providing fixes.

The fuel filter would be the first place I would look.

What Steve said...
If you're stuck on the side of the road, bleed and prime the fuel system. If you access to a parts store, put a new fuel filter in it. Best of luck.

The key here is the message on the DIC before the engine quit. Fuel filters are a common concern for running problems as well as stall but I've never seen one that would be prompt a DIC message. I would lean towards the delete of the exhaust fluid system or any codes set.

I would check the fuel system over, it almost sounds like you lost your fuel pump.
