Ok I have a question as to what people are using for headlight relay harnesses.

With the use of modern headlights and led lamps running this thru the stock wiring and switches is asking for problems.

I looked at the painless kit but the price is stupid even though it uses really good parts.

If there is a market for them I would be interested in building these harnesses.

Let me know what you guys think. Is there a need for a top quality cost effective harness

It's pretty easy to make your own. A little wiring and a couple relays and pigtails. But here is one on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/281648382044?lpid=82&chn=ps and they have a 4 headlight kit if you need that.
Google headlight relay wiring diagram and there are quite a few drawings out there.

Building it is not a issue just looking at what painless gets for a harness with top notch relays and fuse holders. I am just wondering if people would pay $75 -100 for one.

I am building two one for the camaro and one for dad's chevelle. Doing 10 would not take much longer

Yes there is a market for them, unfortunately most of the market is cheap-o eBay crap with low quality relays and too small AWG wiring.

$100 for a complete kit would be reasonable. I've been using this guy for my electrical accessories http://www.ceautoelectricsupply.com/h4headlightrelaykits.html

BTW - LED lamps draw less current than traditional bulbs, so if you're replacing traditional bulbs with LED it would reduce the load on the wiring. Now if you're adding them in addition to all the factory lights, that's a different story.

That kit is the same parts I was looking at.

Led do draw less for sure but i really feel most of these 40 year old cars need as much help as they can get.

For me I look at it as a way to make the car more reliable.

Thanks for the info. I am going to order the supplies to build a couple of them amd see how it goes.

There is a place that builds a "plug-n-play" relay kit for Cougars and I plan on buying it. I think if you make it simple to install, people would pay for a clean set-up.

Used a kit from Susquehanna motorsports and had good luck with it on my 66 pontiff

Nice components on that CE auto electric site. I think you will be able to sell them at that price.

I think if you maintain a high build quality, they will sell. I've been offering local guys custom relay harnesses for trucks and I keep a factory style appearance with my plug n play kits. If you keep it clean and use high end components, most people will instantly recognize the quality of the kit. For example, there's a HUGE difference between Delphi connectors and the cheapo knock-offs....and same goes for terminals and less than j1128 spec wiring. But as the old saying goes, ya get what ya pay for.
