View Full Version : Help with Cruisin the Smokies Route
Getting close to the event and wanting some help with deciding a scenic route from Buckeye Lake 43008 Ohio down to Pigeon Forge Tn. We are planning on driving it in the Dart on 29th. Would like to know if anyone has any suggestions?
Couple options which are the main routes are down 77 to 81 the other is 71 to 75
I would like to go a scenic route down but dont want to end up on a dirt road lol. I was thinking of taking 23 all the way south into Kingsport and then follow 11w. Anyone travel or familiar with these roads? We also have a GMC Dually pulling a car down on a trailer so want it to be decent road for my father too.
BTW if anyone is in route and want to join the caravan down on the 29th.

I would take I-77 down, it's a more scenic drive from Charleston, WV down. You could take I-77, I-81, to I-40 east and jump off on US-321 in Newport,TN which will take you into Gatlinburg, then take the Parkway (US-441) into Pigeon Forge.

I used to drive I-77 a lot between Parkersburg, WV and Wytheville, VA. Probably my favorite stretch of interstate, and gorgeous in the Fall....especially the WV Turnpike part.
Thanks for the info! Through ohio it's not very scenic I do know that but I haven't followed it much further.

I live in VA about 45 minutes above Kingsport, and I've driven 23 numerous times to Columbus for motorcycle rallys and for a Goodguys show a few years ago. 23 is an excellent route, and I would much rather drive it than the WVA turnpike (77) below Charleston. People can't seem to drive on that stretch of road. Stay on 23 all the way from Ohio and it will pass by Kingsport and bring you straight to I-81 (exit 57 on I-81). Go south for 57 miles and merge onto 40 west, then look for Exit 407 and you are there. I've pulled a box trailer full of bikes up and back on 23 and no problems at all. Have a safe trip.
