I'm just seeing what everyone is having good luck with. I was planning on buying the falken 615 but I was told they don't last long driving on the road a lot. Any input would be helpful I will be driving More on the road then autocross but would like something that works good for both.

Thanks
Josh

Josh,

How long (how many miles) do you expect the tires to last?

Well the truth is if you want something for the street that's going to last a long time you gonna have to get something with more the a 200 tread wear.... which the really good autocross tires are like the Falken 615's have a 200TW, if you want the best of both worlds you will have to compromise and get a little higher tread wear like a 300 or more... because the tread wear rating is how long the tire will last, the lower the number the softer the compound of the tire and the stickier it is.

Thanks guys, I just drive around town a lot and i will be driving to a lot of the events. at most i drive my car around 4000 miles a year. if people have there falkens last driving the amount i do, i dont mind having to buy new tires every other year or so. I just dont want to spend 1500 on them and have them wear out in less then a year but i do want to have a great tire to race with since i dumped a lot of money into my car since i played around at the autocross last year at hot august nights. lol

It sounds like you are a perfect candidate for a second set of wheels/tires just for the track.

Josh,

As a data point, my Falkens lasted 3 years with about the usage that you outline above.

Yes. I do need another set but I'm building a motor next.

Andrew,
Thank you. That's basically what I need to know. That's not that bad. That's long enough for a set of tires for me.
By then I would have a extra set of wheels to race with.

After about a year, the rubber gets hard and the grip goes down. I have Falkens now, my last set were Dunlops. I got about 6000 miles and 100 or so autox runs. According to the Falken rep. The Dunlops and Falkens use the same compound and carcass with different tread patterns.

That's interesting, when did the Falken rep say this? I only ask because since the release of the 615K the Dunlop has gone from Z1 star spec, to Z2, to Z2 star spec, has the Falken quietly improved as well or was the Dunlop catching up?
