Since the chrome covers that came with my firebird have leaked since the previous owner had it, I grabbed some nice looking finned aluminum ones off ebay instead of trying to deal with old messed up gasket rails. They included stamped sheetmetal screw-in baffles and some self-tapping screws. Has anyone ever used a similar setup and had any issues? While I'll use some locktite I'm still a bit nervous about one of those little screws coming out and making a mess of things. Are the rubber grommet style baffles just as effective? I can pick some of those up at the local autoparts store.

Rubber grommet baffles are not adequate when cornering with high G-load. You need to do as much as possible to keep oil away from those holes with baffles.

The screw in baffle plate should not be a problem just be sure to use high temp loctite.
