Bill is rubbing off on me, I can't hold back either. How about those valve covers? And a little bit of tire on it.

Shoehorn anyone? Check out the crazy notch in the oil pan for rack clearance. Looks good Frank..

Good eye Steve, When you narrow the frame 3 inches, raise the frame 3 inches, Stroke the motor a 1/4", move the motor back a couple inches, then run the exhaust through the tunnel, it makes for some tight packaging and good planning. It defiantly is one of those installs that requires headers laying in exactly the right spot, one motor mount installed after clearing the pedestal, a couple floor jacks, etc. I know if it ever has to come out, We will just pull the front clip. No way I would try it over the fenders.

Travis, I have a guy doing a high polish jet hot type ceramic coating, Hypercoat, and they are as close to chrome as I would want them. We did the entire exhaust system. The rest of the stuff, suspension, masters, etc, is just polished aluminum.

Very nice

looks good! I'm wondering when you did all that frame narrowing and chopping, did you measure for all the correct geometry? How bout the rack and bumpsteer? Just wondering because it seems like a huge job to make a one off frame and modify it so much and keep everything right! Who did the canfield heads? I think you mentioned they are flowing almost 400cfm?(have heard of a shop that does that)

BTW I can imagine how fun it is to get that all in there. My driver side header requires all the same stuff! and i have more room to work with!!

im a little lost here... why did you narrow the frame? by the way the motor looks great.

yody
10-16-2005, 11:21 AM
narrowed the frame to put on huge front wheels I would guess. So Frank so what cam/compression did you end up with? Flow numbers for the heads? Man I hope that thing is going to be as sweet as it looks in the pictures, cuz were gonna have our magifying glasses out!!!!! LOL

Actually had Wayne Due make the front (stub) frame narrowed 3" for the tires, basically we whacked it off at the firewall and tied it to the perimeter chassis. Allowed us to run 12 wide instead of 10 1/2 wide. Geometry seems fine, bump steer looks like it is not bad, but after the show we will play with some ideas to help reduce it. The skid pad will tell us what we need to know.
Heads are not done yet Yody. Also did not put the cam in it yet till we get final flow numbers. Just was not time to get the heads done, could not risk not getting them back in time. We put a Bo Laws 2 piece timing cover on it so we can switch the cam easy.

Very, very nice!

In fact, after seeing that, there is no way I'm going to post any pics of my half-a**ed spray-bombed smoothed firewall on my budget 68.

In fact compared to your pics, my firewall probably isn't worthy to host any hot small block ... Ya still got that straight six laying around?

yody
10-16-2005, 12:46 PM
cool, so everything should be right, I had thought you said you made/designed the entire frame? Are we gonna get anymore teasers? :) hey what about the motor, did it come out like you planned?

We had Wayne make the front clip since he had that nailed, I am pretty sure that has be mentioned a few times, we just had it done narrower, then added our stuff firewall back.

Have not fired the motor yet (Tuesday) or drove the car (Sunday or Monday), so we cannot say, but I don't expect to be anything but happy. I know it will be a bit down on power right now, probably 100HP off until we do the heads. We will do the heads and cam in December after the Turkey tour and PRI. Right now it just has a little 270 / .680 cam in it on a 114, so it will sound pretty smooth.

WHAT!!!!!!! 310CC heads and a 270 cam?????? what happened????? Ole Yody rubbed off on you?????(actually neither of those are anything I would pick) Man I gotta rub this one in!! ..................so......what kind of compression? :scared: :scared:

The wayne due thing definetly makes sense, wasn't trying to critisize you on that at all, just thought i had read something differently. Looks good, can we get some undercar shots of the exhaust and stuff, or do we have to wait? :worship:

BTW you are "officially" never going to hear the end of it on this motor spec thing from me now!! Man whats next??? a hydro-roller???? :fingersx: :fart:

Who made your valve covers? looks like they were laser ingraved or somethin. or were they CNC'd in? and roundabout how much is it for a custom set of valve covers like that?

Well, we just had to get the car to SEMA, Turkey Tour and PRI, no a dyno or drag race. That will come later. So we simply set it up with what we had. I hated to do it, but if you ever sent a set of heads off for porting, it can be very much like body shop prison, and I simply could not risk it. Also, there is a very good chance after SEMA someone may see the car, and she will end up with some different heads anyway. We may get cam and valve train to. Either way, it will be easy to do in December, and it will still scare old people at stoplights like it is.

they are CNC'd and they are pricey, about $650 with polishing and billet pieces, (polishing was $75 extra, about $75 more for filler, PVC, breather). But if you back out the cost of the cover and pieces, the engraving only ends up being $150 or so including design work, which is pretty cheap. To do sheetmetal covers, The covers have to be a very strict quality because the engraving is only .035 deep, and if the cover is wavy like sheetmetal usually is, it does not work well. We are having covers done now for special purchase through GP Superstore, Of coarse we will use them on motors we build much like Bill Mitchell, Sharioff, and others.
You get a set done through us with or without our logo, or with custom artwork. Your artwork needs to be resonably close to what you want though

I know WD's subframe is 3 inches narrower than stock how much more did you have it narrowed to fit the big tire ?
