:woot:
Well yesterday afternoon to be exact. GM dropped it off so Johnny could drive it up to Laguna Seca. I don't think he gets to take it on the track but at least he gets to give it a test drive.
I have pics but no way to host them right now..
Anyways, it was Daytona Orange and looked to be a "base" model. The car had MFG plates from Michigan and just over 4k on the odometer. It looks even better in person than in pics and I loved the rear flares and the 325 tires. Very comfortable to sit in.
I drove it around town for about 15 mins with my art director. Impressions? Well it is a lot quieter than I expected considering the horsepower level. It felt very refined. I couldn't figure out how to turn off the traction control so no big burn outs. It will let you have a little wheel spin before it kicks in though. It will also let you oversteer (drift) a little bit going around a corner before it reals you in.
The ride was nice. Felt like a sports car. The vette also revs very quickly although I didn't take it all the way to the 7000 redline. I think GM has a winner on thier hands with this car. It was very fun to drive.
I was actually sad when my joyride was over.. I imagine it will be a while till I get behind the wheel of another one. Oh, the door handle system on the C6's takes some getting used to. If you loose all you electrical power can you still open your door??
I'm gonna go break open my piggy bank now..

how were the brakes?
When I got done all you could smell was brakes and clutch.. lol
They seemed to work very good.. 6 piston front and 4 piston back. These might turn out to be a great option for people doing brake upgrades..
The car felt very refined.. not at all like you were in a 500hp supercar. Well, at least until you smashed the gas pedal. :hail: Z06

to answer your question on the door handles, yes you can still get in if you lose power. You can also still get out if you lose power.
Getting In: There is a standard key hole on the underside of the trunk area, just above the license plate area. You use the key to pop the hatch, and there is a pull-lever on the driver's side that opens the driver's door.
Getting Out: There are some manual release levers next to the door sill on both sides, kind of like an import gas-cap popping lever.

I am a bit out of the loop on these so far. What did the MSRP end up being on the base cars. Also, what are people actually paying to buy one right now, how much ADMU(additional dealer mark up).

I believe base is $65,800. It looks like the standard dealer mark up is about 10-20k. Some dealers have agreed to not charge a penny over the msrp, but those are few and far between. I think I remember GM sending a memo to dealers telling them to not mark up the z06.

some guys were lucky and secured a deal with a few honest dealers for MSRP, and put deposits down several months ago. The lowest mark-ups I've seen are $5K over. Some guys are paying $20K over.
I'll wait a year or so, then you will see them at MSRP sitting on the lots, and probably find some dealers selling them with GM rebates. Thats what I did with my C6, I just waited a year and got one for $4500 under MSRP.

I don't think they're quite that high. They are rated at 505 FWHP, and even if that's a little conservative, I doubt they'd be over 500 RWHP. I have a friend whose dad owns a shop outside of Dallas (LG Motorsports in Wylie), and they dyno'd a Z06 a week or two ago, and it came out to like 418hp / 438lb-ft. Or was it vice versa? I can't remember.

I think it was more like 447rwhp/4XXrwtq. With Long Tube headers, I believe these cars are dynoing 475+rwhp.

Here is the exact post from LG Motorsports on LS1tech. Looks like a baseline run was: 443rwhp/411rwtq with LG Headers, the best pull was 483rwhp / 460rwtq. Supposedly this was on a cool run, though, so the gains are slightly inflated. Once the ability to tune the LS7 PCM is gained I'm sure this won't be an issure, though.

A friend of mine is going to buy it when my blk one arrives.. I also sold my '99 FRC "track" car and bought a '01 ZO6 w/ a LPE 427 in it for my new track car. It's at 21st Century muscle cars getting the tranny/rear end coolers/ Brembos/ DRM coilovers ect. installed. Why don't you go to work???
Wait, that is work, wringing out a new vette, looking at cars all day, checking the boards to keep up with what is new. Then the drag of having to go to car events, shows, races, SEMA. Damn, any openings???LOL
It will be interesting to hear your thoughts on the A6. Almost sounds like too many gears.

I would rather wait on a Z06 with an A6+paddle, IMO, hands down more fun and easy to drive than the stick. Six speed auto sounds just fine, my 5spd Armada is very quick thanks to that extra gear and it never hunts for the shift. For now I can only imagine what a six speed auto would do.

Steve- Is the vette paddle shift or does it have buttons on the back of the steering wheel.
Also will that setup be available on the ZO6. I don't know why I am wondering I cant afford one just yet.

I think anyone who pays $20k over MSRP for a Vette is crazy, no offense. I mean, at the end of the day, it's still a Chevy. Yea, it's a nice one (probably one of the nicest they've made in a long time), but just like Tony said, in a year they'll be sitting on dealer lots like any other car. And I don't think they'll be worth that much more than any other mass-produced American car years down the road. But then again, who knows, I doubt anyone would've ever thought back in 1969 that a run of the mill Camaro would be pulling the kind of money they do today.

It's probably the best stock new car I have ever driven. Tight, fast and handles flat. There really is no comparison to a stock C5 ZO6. I will know more after my first track day. I will be taking my ZO6 "track" car and the new Z.

I was trying (unsuccessfully), more on that experience later, to test drive a Cobalt SS, which is more in my price range, and just for craps and giggles I looked at the window sticker on one of the Z06's. To my amazement and HORROR I saw 92,+++.00 !!!! Almost one hundred grand for a Z06! I was stunned.
Back to the test-drive....
I have on 2 separate occasions been at the dealer when there were SS Cobalts on site. The first time I was told that test-driving of showroom vehicles was not permitted???? :dunno: The salesman then took my number and said he'd call when he had one I could drive.
In the mean time I drive past this same dealership every day on the way home from work, and noticed a used 2005 Mustang GT with 12,000 miles, manual and cloth interior on the lot. Sticker on it was 33,750??WTF..... Went online and priced and quoted a 2006 with leather (add $450), airbags (+$370), and automatic (+$995) and got a quote for 28,550 from a dealer about 3 miles away!
Armed with the dealer email and quote for 28500 I walked into the dealer and asked them what the real price of the used, 12000-mile, no leather, manual, air bag GT was. After much consternation and who hawing, this car salesman tells me he can go all the way down to.......are you ready.........
....you won't believe the great price....
it's miraculous....
$27,650!!!!!!! Praise the Lord!! I can finally buy that used car of my dreams and save myself enough cash to buy a small freezer full of POPCICLES! Give me a break...I couldn't believe it. I had to buy that car!!! What a steal! I R^PED THAT DEALER!!
While there I again attempted to test-drive a new arrival SS Cobalt they had and managed to get into the car with the key and get a much closer look. Eventually however I was again told that they couldn't allow me to drive the SS.
My rant is almost over sorry.....
Two days ago and yesterday I started getting calls from the original sales guy who had taken my number on the first Cobalt I'd been interested in. He mentioned that they had "JUST" gotten another one in and that I could come down for a drive. I told him that I had already seen, sat in, and been rejected a test drive in the very same car he had "JUST" received. This guy called me no less than EIGHT TIMES yesterday to make sure I came down for a drive! I had told him at 10AM that I would come by after work at 5:30. FOUR of his calls were from 5:15-5:40pm while I was attempting to get to the dealership. I tried to warn him that I had no faith in actually getting to drive the car, and was repeatedly reassured that it wouldn't be an issue. Anyway....got there..more pomp and circumstance was piled on....and then he regretfully informed me that the car wasn't available for test drives!!!! WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF!!!!
My vision blurred, I started to sweat, and my adrenaline been to flow as I envisioned hordes of tiny, pitchfork wielding, demonic fairies overwhelming this salesman and gouging out his entrails as they gleefully chirped a tidy little melody to the cacophony of his screams of death and torment!
When my vision cleared and my bloodthirsty rage quieted, I calmly told the salesman that he could please offer his sales manager my parting message.....
"Please congratulate him on selling his first 2006 Ford Mustang, and that perhaps he would like to help me pick the color since I have already driven a GT."
BAD RANT I APOLOGIZE!!

They say they don't want to drive a showroom car. They must have a hard time getting the cars shrunk down enough to fit them through the 20 foot opening in the showroom. The incredible shrinking machine must be a bear to warm up!
I would be more understanding if we were dealing with a 65-70,000 Vette. You don't walk into a Ferrari dealership and get a test drive an Enzo either, but we sure aren't talking about an exotic here are we? It's a 205 HP, four banger, econo/rice competitor.
I just think they don't want to sell cars.
A 25000 used Mustang they sticker at 33500
A Z06, although orgasmic, at 92,000+
And 23,000 econo Chevys' they won't let a prospective buyer test drive. I have to give them credit for offering a test drive in a base model Cobalt though! I mean they are the same car right! Why would a measly 80 HP and manual tranny make any difference to me as a purchaser?

Ha ha ha. When I went to my Local dealer ship 2 years ago to get my Siverado I test drove the SS, Z71, 2500 HD and the 1500 I ended up buying. Not even a batted eyelash at all the requests to "test" the new trucks. Hell the SS I drove was stickered for $46,000. Fast forward 2 years and my wife and I go to another chevy dealership who wants to run our credit before we buy the high and mighty Equinox at an astounding $21,000 for an LT. Come on people, it's an Equinox. I would hate to have asked to test drive the Corvette in the showroom. SHHEEESSHH. It is a royal hassle to buy a car or something.
