Nows a good time to atleast rough in the wiring for a stereo in my 67 camaro.
My goals are modest. Simply to drive down the road listening to the Grateful Dead. Maybe some Steely Dan.
My parameters are;
- No head unit. The only interface I want is a bluetoothed phone.
- Nothing visible. No sub box in trunk. No amps or 6x9s cut into the package tray.
My priority is simplicity and stealth over ultimate sound quality.
I'm not opposed to modifing (cutting up) the interior to fit speakers but I want it to look as stock as possible. There's a spot for, I think, a 4x6 in the center of the dash and I can probably fit some 6" speakers in the kick pannels. In a perfect world I wouldn't have an external amp or sub.
Is this product a decent starting point ? outofsightaudio.com

Dash Spkrs will, sound like poop and kick panel speakers will have 0 bass unless you use the fresh air vents You could put 6x9s in them but still won't have much bass Put 6x9s in back deck and use a mesh oem panel to hide them. Use a Memphis car audio Bluetooth adaptor and a small amp

I thought rear speakers were bad? Would a bluetooth converter and separate amp be superior to the 27w X 4 doodad I posted?

If the original dash speaker is similar to the one in my C10, then you can put a pair of 4" in place of the single 4x6 and can sound good. I have a pair of RF Punch 4s and they sound better than I expected. Kick-panel speakers can work well to, especially with components and re-locate the tweeters up higher. I would also recommend a slim-mount subwoofer just to round out the sound.
You're true "audiophiles" don't believe in rear-fill speakers but can help to fill the interior with sound. 6x9s in the rear deck can be clean looking and provide a decent amount of bass giving you will be using the trunk as a "box".
I'm not familiar with the product in the link but willing to bet a good quality amplifier and BT adapter would sound a whole lot better. Also take into account that BT will hinder the sound-quality, but probably not a big deal unless you really like your audio.

I would use one of the new line of Bluetooth amps combined with a good quality 6.5" component system mounted in the kick panels. Some of the Blue tooth amps are pretty small, as you'd only need 50 watts per side.

Thanks. Im fine with the fidelity loss of Bluetooth. Im not hip to anything in car audio. Can you suggest a line of Bluetooth/ amps?

This amp has decent reviews and would probably work "good enough" for you. Pretty reasonably priced. It has some ridiculous watts rating, but it's probably good for 50 watts per side without clipping.

Thank you for the spoon feeding. It's appreciated. I feel like I'm trying to make my Camaro "feel really planted in the turns". Got a favorite 6.5?

I have my favorite, but you probably don't want to spend that much...LOL
Honestly, for what you want to do, and your level of indiscretion, almost anything will work. Pick a brand name you recognize and the budget...
These don't look terrible:

In my GTO I am using an older set of Boston Acoustic 6.5 Pro...

Thanks. And thanks for being willing to deal with my less that audiophillic goals. I've got good to great gear in my house for "listening" but don't need it for "driving". I'll update when it's all screwed together.

as for rear speakers being 'bad'... it's not horrible to have them. they just impose some problems when trying to get the best possible sound and tune. With a system like you describe, i'd actually recommend rear speakers especially if they are 6x9's reason being... you dont want a sub and the only way you can fill in the lows in your rock music (rocks DEMANDS lows to sound good) you need cone area. the 6x9's will provide you with that as well as the added spl (volume).
you can simply use a bt adapter plugged into an amplifier... but you need an amp to power the speakers. there are a whole bunch of nano amps out there that can be hidden very easily. there is the alpine power pack or similar clarion unit (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_m33_i1743_clarion-mini-amps.html) that can use factory wiring and be wired like a radio. or for some extra OOMPH you can get a dedicated amp (and associated wiring kit)

another option is an all in one unit:

i dont have any knowledge of these but they could fit the bill nicely
