my buddy bought a tpi engine thinking that it was a 5.7 when it really only is a 5.0. i have a spare 5.7 block at home will the heads and all the fuel injection stuff bolt on to the 5.7 block, and how well do these engines function?
thanks a lot
vince

The TPI by design makes great torque, but chokes off air above 4500-5000 rpm. If you're looking to build a high-revving screamer, the TPI intake will need to be changed some something like a TPIS Miniram or Holley Stealthram.

The 305 heads will really bump your compression ratio up (they're only 58cc chambers on a 305). I'd recommend getting a set of heads to match the intake base ('86-earlier uses the perimeter bolt heads, '87-up uses centerbolt). The intake, throttle body, and harness are all the same for 5.0 vs. 5.7. You will need to change the injectors, chip, and knock sensor for it to really work well.

thanks for the help, i have some more questions for you. hope you can help.
we actually have the stock 5.0 heads and plan on using them on the 5.7 block. what type of gas tank will we need to make this engine work, by the way this is going into a 63 nova.
thanks again

you can use your factory gas tank you will however need a good electric fuel pump either intank or externally mounted. it must be able to supply at least 50psi. the TPI only uses low 40s but you need the extra for WOT throttle runs to insure you have no loss of pressure problems. you may need to add a return line to the tank and car. im not sure if the 63 had one. it needs to be at least 5/16" line. the return line needs to enter the top part of the tank as well.

the 305 heads are cast iron, no? thats the fbody engine and they should be. if thats the case you will not be able to run pump gas without restricting the tune or using race gas. just keep that in mind. they will bolt on though.

believe it or not the TPI system was never intended to be on the 350 it is a 305 intake system, but they put it on the 350 anyway. the 350s used 24lb injectors i believe if not its 22. i can never remember when i need to.

i used my stock tank in my 73 vette and modified a sending unit from a late 80's truck with a walbro 255 pump and moounted it in the to of my tank.3/8 feed line and 5/16 return lines.and the 350 used 22lb injectors and the 305's 19lbs,when i first got the tpi going i had the 19lb injectors and the prom in a 60 over 350 zz4 cammed and it ran fine, but lean, ive since swapped to 24lb injectors and a custom prom.
